PART ONE :
A/ READING COMPREHENSION
THE TEXT
THE TEXT IS COMPOSED OF PARAGRAPHES,
THE PARAGRAPHS ARE COMPOSED OF SENTENCES.
EACH SENTENCE GIVES A PIECE OF INFORMATION.
=> THAT PIECE OF INFORMATION IS A POSSIBLE ANSWER TO ONE OF THE
QUESTIONS DOWN BELOW

HOW TO ANALYSE THE TEXT ?


1- DIVIDE EACH PARAGRAPH INTO SENTENCES
A sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with a full stop, this is a
stable rule in our written language.
2-GIVE EACH SENTENCE A GENERAL IDEA AND TRANSLATE IT IN ARABIC
Read the full sentence.
If you can't understand it fully, grab a word or two and try to approximately
figure out the information given.
Use your french package if necessary
3- PUT THE COLLECTED IDEAS IN THE ORDER THEY APPEAR IN THE TEXT
Generally, each task will have some sort of respect to the text's sequencing
of ideas.
You will not lose your time searching for the ideas' location.

THE TASKS
TRUE OR FALSE STATEMENTS
1- THE STATMENT
A given statement always discusses one of the ideas appearing in the text.
We already extracted the ideas,thus we will only see if the statements agree
with them or not.
2- THE TRICKS
For a sentence to be true, every part must be "true".
Qualifiers like (sometimes, often, many, few,) = 70% True
Qualifiers like (Always, Only, Never, All) = 80% False
Reason statements tend to be false.(Because, since etc…)
Longer statements may be false.
ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS
1- THE QUESTION
A given question always asks for an information from one of the ideas
appearing in the text.
We already extracted the ideas,thus we will only answer each question, by
giving the information that's asked from us.
2- TYPES OF QUESTIONS
YES OR NO QUESTIONS :
it starts with an auxiliary
it requests a confirmation or a denial
the answer should be : Yes+S+Aux OR No+S+Aux+not

WH QUESTIONS :
it starts with a wh word (Why, How, Who, What, When, Where ...)
it requests one of the following :

the answer should be : the information that they asked for.

PRONOUN REFRENCES

1- THE ANTECEDENT
It is the noun that the pronoun replaces.
located in the same sentence, or the sentence before it.
2- THE PRONOUN-ANTECEDENT AGREEMENT
It means ensuring that they match each other in number, person, and
gender.
TYPE OF THE TEXT
1- NARRATIVE TEXT
It tells a story.
Verbs are in the past tenses.
The use of time expressions and dates.
Chronolgy in events.
2- EXPOSITORY TEXT
It explains something, presents facts and gives information.
verbs are usually in the present tense.
we can find statistics.
examples are given.
3- ARGUMENTATIVE TEXT
it discusses an opinion.
it contains arguments or counterarguments.
expressions of agreement and disagreement.
examples and quotes are given.
4-DESCRIPTIVE TEXT
It describes people, places, things, etc.
Adjectives are widely used.
The use of stative verbs.
call for the five senses.
5-PRESCRIPTIVE TEXT
It gives advice, recommendations or orders.
verbs are usually in the imperative.
The use of modals verbs.

TITLE SELECTION
1- SELECT THE TITLE
When selecting a title for the text, make sure that the general idea is
mentioned in it, that’s why it’s important to read the full text before starting
to answer the questions. Sometimes, titles that represents only a paragraph
or two will be suggested, so pay attention.
2- GIVE THE TITLE
If you are asked to come up with a title by yourself, make sure you include
the name of the topic and the general idea that the text is presenting.
EXTRA TASKS
COMPLETE EACH STATEMENT
We already extracted the ideas, so we will only complete the
statement given using the information we already have.

IDEAS IN THE ORDER THEY APPEAR


IN THE TEXT
We made sure that our ideas are organized and ordered, so we
will compare the given ideas with our extracted ones, and put
them in the order we already have.

UNDERLINED WORDS REFRENCES


It is the same process as the prounouns'; ensuring that they
match each other in number, person, and gender.
