Are you familiar with the picture at the right?

Have you ever seen this performed before?

This performance is called cheerleading.

Popularly performed during sporting events
hosted by schools and universities as well as
private companies.

Find out in this lesson how cheerleading is https://tinyurl.com/3haty6f5

performed and the concepts related to it.

What’s New & What is It

Cheerleading, a team activity in which

elements of dance and acrobatics are
combined with shouted slogans in order to
entertain spectators at sporting events and to
encourage louder and more enthusiastic
cheering. Once exclusively a sideline activity
geared toward supporting school sports,
cheerleading has gained recognition as a sport
in its own right and often operates outside the
school context altogether.

Cheer dance vs. Cheerleading

The difference between Cheerleading and Cheer dancing is that cheerleading has its
foundation in Gymnastics. And as for Cheer dance, its foundation lies in the
Choreography where Ballet seems to be its foundation.

Judging the two tilts, though, is like comparing apples and oranges, as cheer dance
and cheerleading are two different forms of art borne out of the desire to entertain
fans and inspire players through one thing: cheering.

“Cheer dance competition is cheerleading and a dance,… It focuses more on dance

and different kinds of themes and props” says decorated coach Rhufa Rosario, who
handles both the UAAP’s DLSU Animo Squad and the NCAA’s University of Perpetual
Help System Perp Squad.

3
On the other hand, the multi-titled mentor notes, cheerleading is more of a sport. It
takes dance as just one of the 5 basic elements of cheerleading and the challenge is
to balance all 5, including tumbling, stunts, pyramids and tosses, in a routine.

Cheerleading Movements and Stunts

Cheerleading movements mostly consist of combination of its basic movements.

Motion refers to the position of the arms and hands rather than movement.

4
Stunts are defined as building performances displaying a person's skill or dexterity.
Stunting in cheerleading has been previously referred to as building pyramids. Prep,
lift, execution, and landing is the sequence in which a stunt jump is performed.

In performing a stunt, performers are classified as follows:

Flyer – The performer being lifted in the air.
Base – The performers who holds, lifts, throws and catches the flyer.
Spotter – The additional performers whose primary responsibility is to watch the
stunt and assist the flyer in the case of a fall or accident.

What’s More

in the sequence they are shown on the illustration above. Accompany your
