Many people say that universities should only offer places to young students
with highest marks, others say they should accept people with all ages and ability even if they do not do well at school. Discuss both view and give your own opinion
People have different opinions on whether universities should offer places to
students with outstanding academic results at school or students irrespective of ages and academic performance. Although both views are justifiable, I am of the opinion that the latter is of greater significance.
Admittedly, academically gifted students should be prioritized to pursue higher
education due to some certain reasons. First, students who have good academic results often show quicker absorption of knowledge than the others. To illustrate, they can manifest skills in dealing with workload during educational process, which ensures the quality of graduates at universities. Furthermore, that only accepting academically inclined students is to remain reputation of the universities in the community. For example, some top universities such as University of Oxford and Harvard University yearly enroll students with a remarkable academic result or research achievements. By accepting these gifted students who have opportunities to win precious prizes like Nobel, the image of the universities can enhanced around the world.
Nonetheless, I do favor in that students regardless of ages and their academic
ability need enrolling in universities. One prominent reason is that it creates fair opportunities for individuals to pursue tertiary education. This means that they also have a right to access education and are well-educated with specialized skills to find high-paying jobs after graduation. Additionally, students with all ages and abilities entering universities also make learning environment more diverse. To be more specific, notwithstanding people’s not performing well at school, they may have some talents for a particular field, which brings achievements in numerous areas for the universities.
In conclusion, whilst it is understandable why universities only offer places to
students with high grades, I am convinced that students regardless of ages and academic abilities should have right to enter higher education in terms of the fair in education and their talents.
