 Who am I

Astrology became really important to me in 1994 when Kurt Cobain

of Nirvana, committed suicide. He was a major influence in my life,
my writing and my music and I was absolutely shocked that he would
commit suicide. Why would a person with seemingly everything do
that?

I was (and am) a scientifically minded type of person, always very

interested in exploring religions and philosophies (which I now know
my conjunction of Mercury, Saturn and Venus in the 9th house is
responsible for) but still very rationally minded. Nothing about his
death was rational. Nothing I was reading in the media about Kurt
was making sense. I needed a new way to understand this tragic
decision from someone who had everything going for him and so
many options. I knew Kurt himself was Buddhist and often talked
about his Piscean nature (even his suicide letter had major
astrological overtones) and I really loved to read about his thoughts
on life.

Anyway, a couple of weeks later I was at the shops and I walked

past a Horoscope magazine. I picked it up and saw an article about
the Titanic of all things. The Titanic fascinates me so I bought it to
have a read and boy am I glad I did. It was the first time I had read
an absolutely impeccably accurate analysis of an accident that
occurred nearly 100 years ago and it blew my mind. (When I read
the movie was made 84 years after the sinking and reading Uranus
took exactly 84 years to rotate the sun which coincided with the
astrology of the Titanic and subsequent movie, my interest in strange
and tragic astrology was piqued). Perhaps this was how I could
understand the things that didn’t make sense?

I didn’t know if it would help, but I was going to find out.

Being the A type personality I am, I wanted to learn astrology

professionally before making any assumptions. There was no point
going in half hearted and half cocked. If I could do the mathematics
and it made sense, I could carry through with it and apply it to my
questions. Like most people that say it astrology is nonsense, unless
you actually learn every aspect from calculating the planets and our
position relative to those planets and then understand every single
interpretation of the interaction between points in the chart, you
cannot say it’s nonsense.
So I realised astrology was a life time study, went to many classes,
sat all of my exams, fell in love with it and became a professional
astrologer and teacher. I had found my calling!

I did pull apart the chart of Kurt Cobain's death many times, I
wrote many pages on Kurt and his state of mind and I learned a lot
while doing it. It introduced me to understanding that you can see the
answers in a chart when it is erected at the very minute of the event
(his suicide) compared to other charts relative to the situation. (His
natal chart and transits).

I have specialized in Horary and Event astrology for about 22 years

and in the last 15 years I have been dedicating most of my time
helping find missing people and find some answers to give the
families of missing or murdered loved ones a little resolution. I want
to show that there is a place for criminal astrology alongside law
enforcement and other procedures put in place when something
tragic happens or a person goes missing. The charts are a tool to
assist, not take over from the law.
 Introduction
After many years of reading and helping with criminal cases, I
have finally put together the information scattered around in my brain
into a book. In fact it is volume one of three books on Criminal
Astrology and all things that are encompassed in this branch of
astrology.
Just to clarify straight away, many astrologers that do this type of
work refer to themselves as Forensic Astrologers and that is fine but
I prefer to incorporate many areas of criminal behaviour so I simply
use the terms Criminal Astrology. This incorporates all aspects of
forensics when the horoscopes of the ‘crime’ and all of the evidence
at hand is analysed.

My initial reason for writing this book was purely to try and
comprehend the incomprehensible. The true mind of a killer. I
researched and analysed the horoscopes of as many serial killers as
I could find which led to researching other types of murders and
crimes, single killers, mass murders and spree killers. All of the
things we don’t like to think about. I was hooked.

Once I started my Criminal and Forensic Astrology group on

Facebook, and launched into the world of social media it became
very clear very quickly that so many people were suffering the loss of
children, family members and people they loved. With no help! This
led me into researching cases of missing people and abductions and
other awful cases that I will never forget as long as I live. I wanted to
understand every aspect of this type of behaviour and the
horoscopes of the people involved to see if it could help. That began
my official journey into criminal astrology. The serial killers and other
murders became a springboard for understanding the characteristics
of people that do these heinous things, astrologically. There are so
many factors involved in why people kill people, such as the persons
mental state, brain injury and the environment the person was raised
in. Then there is the motive of committing the crime, why? this is
what can be determined by looking at charts such as event, last
seen and horary rather than only the natal charts (but combined with
natal charts). When you start looking into criminal astrology you
begin to see how widespread crime is! Terrorism on many levels,
School shootings, serial murder. These are the areas that will be
uncovered over three volumes of the Criminal Astrology books.

So you may be wondering as I did, are some people born to

ultimately just commit suicide? Hurt others? Kill others? Is everything
we are in the astrological chart? Yes it is, it is only though,
interpretation and a full understanding of the entire dynamics of the
birth charts and transits, progressions that can yield the answers we
need. Can a person control their murderous urges? Yes. I believe so.
Our birth chart shows clear guidelines (it is a blueprint after all) as to
how we can be our very best selves (and it shows coping
mechanisms ) and along with our birth print we develop our
behavioral patterning from our mother and father initially and then
through the early learning experience at home we develop it further.
This and external events (transits and progressions in astrology)
define us. They can make us stronger, weaker, more angry or less
caring or they can make us more determined to change. These
events are often triggers for future behaviour. These events are
where I like to look to get clear astrological answers.

There are many things that have to be taken into account in a

criminal chart or the charts of murders and murderers. Don’t read
this and assume because you have an aspect or placement similar it
applies to you. It doesn’t work that way. The non-nurtured child could
easily use all of the aspects and placements at their worst or lowest
level and the heavily nurtured child can grasp the higher concepts of
each area of the chart. In saying that though, many people with
horrific childhoods can utilise the highest parts of their charts. It is a
complex blend of many things that makes for a criminal. When we
read a natal chart we look for the positives and how to help the client
grow. In a chart for a criminal or a missing person you have to blend
possible negatives with positives, compare victim to suspect, yin and
yang. It takes practice not be fatalistic but to be helpful in an
astrological situation. Explaining negatives can be scary to hear so
tact is absolutely imperative.
This book is a rundown on how I read criminal charts, event charts
and some suspects natal charts are interspersed as well. It assumes
a degree of basic astrological knowledge.

The next volumes will go even further down the rabbit hole. Mapping
charts onto specific locations to find the missing, the psychology of
murderers and how all of these techniques can be applied to other
events and tragedies such as school shootings, terrorist attacks and
world events. Hopefully together we can gain some sort of
understanding of these things on an astrological level.
 CHAPTER ONE
Understanding the crime
 Events, Last seen and Law Enforcement call
charts
In the last couple of years astrology has become extremely
popular on social media and more popular in general. People are
starting to understand forecasting the future with transits and that
astrology helps us understand ourselves. I have found though that
event, horary and last seen charts (horoscopes) are not as widely
understood. These charts are incredible tools for so many reasons.

An event chart is the horoscope of a specific time and place and a

last seen chart is an extension of the event chart. It encompasses a
few things. It takes it’s timing from events noted by a person or group
of authorities in charge. (Police). If I have a case of an abduction that
has extensive detail I will erect charts for the last few hours this
person was seen in increments of half an hour and an event chart for
any CCTV footage that may be seen or when a family member, a
friend or anyone else says they last saw the person in question.
Sometimes you can end up with several charts for one case, these
will all make sense once the details come out and the crime is
solved. Every chart tells a story and the story always reflects the
truth. How far you go into it and how many charts or what type of
charts you use depends on the circumstances and the questions that
need answering.

Most of the time there is a time stamp associated with the crime,
documented by Law Enforcement. A 000 or 911 phone call is such a
time stamp and is also a great time to erect a chart. It takes a bit of
research sometimes to get this exact time but you just cannot accept
a blanket time of say 6pm when it was actually 6:07pm. This 7
minutes makes a huge difference. Accuracy is absolutely imperative
when we interpret these charts.

Taking detailed notes is extremely important.

I note everything. (I usually have one exercise book per case). Here
is a brief example of details I note down which usually ends up
extremely long because most crimes are extremely convoluted and
not at all straight forward.

6 October 1997 at ________am/pm Place _________.

_________Left with friend _______ (name/s). Friend and her
drinking. Camping and going to a separate party. They were found a
when one man confessed and showed the police the sight. Found on
the ________ at ____pm/am on _______rd. _____ State. All people
at the scenes details are
________________________________________. Type of injuries
_________________________ and so on.

Do not go in to a criminal case blind without details or information. It

doesn’t help the reading, the client, victim or family or the
subsequent mapping (a later volume will cover mapping techniques)
and most of all it just wastes precious time. If the client isn’t open to
being ‘forward with information’ and requires proof, explain this to
them before proceeding. You are not performing a trick, this is a
serious niche that requires all information humanly possible to get an
unbiased review of what happened. Write everything down,
everything. Research any news /media and try and get times and
places from trustworthy sources. Times should have at least an A
rating (see Rodden ratings in Chapter Six). I have people approach
me to ask to look at a horoscope so getting accurate times is easier
than it was when I was researching crimes but if you find you want to
offer help to somebody who is asking for another take on the
situation, it will be in your best interest and for the sake of accuracy
to ask for exact times of importance and places. You will need to be
very clear and succinct with the information you require. This can be
the hardest thing to do in your role as a criminal astrologer, talking to
the family or a friend of a person who has vanished or has been
murdered is not easy, it is something that requires tact and
compassion and if this isn’t something that you can do, I would avoid
reading these charts because people that have gone through or are
going through such atrocities and heartache do not need a tactless
astrologer. Sometimes the person you are talking to doesn’t feel as
though they are on planet earth at all. Their life has been ripped
apart and nothing makes sense. The only way astrology can help is
if it is used with compassion, used for the right reasons such as to
help council them through the pain, try and assist in locating a
person or to locate a suspect. If it isn’t used in this capacity, don’t do
it. If it isn’t going to achieve anything, reconsider doing it for actual
clients who are really clinging onto hope and want clear answers.
Astrology isn’t infallible but as astrologers, we are unfortunately.
Don’t over promise anything. Only do what you can if you feel
comfortable doing so.

When a person has lost someone, something strange happens.

Rosy coloured glasses come off, the world becomes muddier but
clearer too. It may be through blurred eyes and a mind and heart that
cannot comprehend the externally realities of what is happening but
we see a different energy, a different dimension, it feels like. You see
the people around you that help you as the best of friends, people
who are not useful to your growth at this time, go away. Family
becomes the most important thing in the world and the compassion
and help of strangers becomes absolutely paramount! That might
sound strange to some but for those that have lost a child or loved
one, when someone wants to spend their time helping you or
supporting you, you and they feel a sense of real love. You may see
sometimes TV, when parents of deceased children or family hold
press conferences and are often overwhelmed with joyous tears for
the contributions of the public, the media, and supporters and in
general…humans that want to help. This is the hope these families
have when talking to an astrologer.

With this in mind, when you talk to a person who is asking for your
help, you will find they want to give you the information you need.
Once they understand why. They may not understand the true
importance of the times and places we need but usually after a
while, information turns into a pretty clear time-line. Sometimes you
may have to ask a few times where exactly the place is we are
talking about. Quite often an answer to this question is only a state
and Country. What is actually required is the exact location, even
street names involved. This is so we can look at the area on maps,
use directions from charts and map possible locations of interest. A
client may be hesitant to give street names or other details due to
privacy or even safety concerns so the next best thing is to get a
nearby area that they feel comfortable telling you about. It takes time
and patience and understanding to get the information you need so
don’t ask every question at once. If the case is high profile you can
get time lines from the Internet. Just make sure you research the
information carefully because any mistakes can lead to wrong
conclusions.

Sometimes we cannot get a chart for the last time a person is seen
or heard from because they were gone before anyone knew. The
best alternative is actually to make the LE chart (911 or 000) or
Emergency call chart. This call is always recorded and has a time
stamp. Even if it is 3 weeks later, that is okay. When discussing this
with the family you will get closer times, more details and most often
you will get to the time the incident happened. With a 911 or 000
chart though there is a sense of urgency from the person calling
which produces a very precise and intentful chart to read. The time
at the very beginning of that call is the time needed. I cannot stress
enough how important accuracy is. The degrees of the house cusps
and planets get converted into miles and distance for mapping
(Volume Two covers this) and the relationship between planets and
houses or other planets (aspects) must be exact to get the specifics.

Note* Many people ask me the same thing : ‘’because I have the
same aspect or planetary position one of these people has, does it
mean I am a killer or a psychopath?’’ Well two answers here. No and
No !! If you were a psychopath I would assume you already know
something is wrong with you and the natal chart alone does not tell
us criminal events or even really whether a person is a psychopath.
There are common synastries between events and natal charts of
criminal behaviour as this book will show but solely looking at a natal
chart, you cannot tell such things. Event chart analysis is something
that I always use without fail in my reading crime charts as they can
be used for any event for which we have a time, date and place.
Natal horoscopes add depth and fleshes out the story.

The Houses

The 1st house or the Ascendant, represents the victim or person in

question. When we consider that the Ascendant represents the
victims and the Descendant, the perpetrator in a murder situation,
these are our primary signifiers in the chart. The 1st house is the
appearance of the victim, the physicality of the victim, the planets in
the 1st house can show us what was in front of the victim at the time
in question (or the time of the event). The very first place to start is
the first house. What sign is it in and where is the ruler placed? Is it
an Aries Asc? If so Mars is the ruler of the victim. If Taurus is rising
then Venus is the ruler of the person in question and so on. (see
above)

Where does the ruling planet of the 1st house cusp say the victim
was at this time? Is it in the 1st house? This shows us that the
person possibly has not been taken and has voluntarily left but it can
also show us that the perpetrator was in the vicinity of the victim, at
their residence, in front of them. On the other hand if the ruling
planet is in the 7th house it puts the victim right under the suspects
nose. If the ruler of the victim is in the 2nd house you might consider
if the person was taken for trafficking (the second house makes a
person a possession in this instance). The third house would imply
there has been a communication issue which has led to a specific
situation. A verbal argument that got out of hand? A sibling or
cousins may be involved? Vehicles involved and a short distance is
applicable. The 4th house would make me look towards the family
initially. It also does not bode very well for the victims ruler being in
the house of the end of the matter. (The 4th house is the womb and
the tomb). If the victims ruler is in the Fifth house one could assume
that person has been in a situation of partying or drinking dancing
entertainment or basically, out somewhere having fun. The sixth
house would show me that this victim was doing their routine normal
thing when it was disrupted by the other person. It also implies a
stalker. If the ruler of the 7th house is in the 6th you can assume the
suspect has been watching the victim prior.

The 7th house is opposite the 1st house (Asc) and represents
partners and people in our lives. It can also show us the murderers
of the victim or as in general astrology ,an open enemy of the
person. As explained over and over again, the planets in the 7th
house and the position of the ruler of the 7th will show the details of
the crime if erected at the correct time. The 7th house can describe
the appearance of the suspect, the reasoning behind why (or the
motivation), and the connections and links to other people or
evidence is shown by following the aspects to the ruler of the 7th
house. Many things are gleaned from the 7th house. The ruler of the
7th house shows us a lot about the suspect. Quite often the 7th
house ruler and the 1st house ruler are in aspect to each other
showing the connection between the two people. Always look for this
aspect between the ruler of the 1st and the 7th house as it confirms
the situation. The Moon in the chart of the question co rules the
person in question or victim in this my method of reading last seen
charts. The ruler of the 1st house in the 7th house shows that the
victim is right in front of the suspect and most likely on his territory.
Not necessarily near the victims home or area of familiarity but
where the suspect feels the most comfortable.
A ruling planet in the 8th house implies immediately to me that we
are looking for a deceased person (the 8th house is the house of
death in the event chart). The victim also could have been embroiled
in a financial disagreement, inheritance or had debts. The 9th house
shows that the victim is likely far away or going further away at the
point of reading the chart. The10th house implies the victims story
will become public, is out in the open and likely the crime was seen
by a witness. It also gives us the authorities in this persons life. Their
boss? Their parents? It shows us how the police and government
bodies handle the situation as well. The 11th house indicates that the
victim may have been surrounded by or with some friends at the time
or friends may know what happened. It shows the hopes and dreams
of the victim being taken away. The 12th house can show us that the
victim may not be found, may be in a very enclosed area, hidden and
kept hidden. Or kidnapped.
 Condition of the Planets and Signs
When a planet is in its exalted sign, especially at the very degree
of exaltation it can be a positive sign. Showing us that the victim may
be alive, although depending on the location in the chart it may also
be the suspect operating on a level that will enable him or her to get
away with the crime. If it represents the victim in the chart though, it
gives them a strength and an upper hand and resilience. If a planet
is in its fall, especially at the degree shown, it shows the planet is not
in its optimal condition. If the suspect was represented by the planet
in fall, he most likely made mistakes. Clues and evidence should be
there to find. If he is represented by the planet in exaltation he is
likely proficient at what he does and it probably isn’t the first time he
has done something criminal.

If the victim is represented by the planet in fall this shows him/her

being in a detrimental position and not able to fight to full capacity or
get out of that situation. It always pays to note the degrees and signs
in the charts you are looking at, write down any planets in rulership,
detriment, fall or exaltation. Then you can look for aspects and other
factors that will back this up. As the name implies, if the planet is in
detriment the person has some detrimental effect at the time of the
event or crime. Preferably the suspect. This shows he was sloppy or
‘unorganized’. Each planet and sign cover many areas in the
crime/event/horary/last seen/000/911 charts.

As well as showing rulerships, this section covers possible injuries

the suspect has himself or has inflicted on the person or possible
weapons used in the crime. Each planet rules a weapon and a
method of killing.

The descriptions are from the Sun and Moon to Saturn only. The
outer planets are not used usually in these sorts of charts (although I
do at times look for extra information) If Aquarius for example is on
the cusp you would go to Saturn it’s ancient ruler. Pisces you would
go to Jupiter ruler of Pisces traditionally.

Injuries of the Sun or Leo

Distribution of vital forces and especially through the blood, Heart
issues, palpitations or trembling, or any diseases of heart, principally
in man he governs the heart, the brain and right eye, in women the
left eye. Any injury to the chest area. Gunshot to the heart/spine is
something to keep in mind (rules some metals and heart spine is
Leo). Spinal problems.

Injuries related to the Moon or Cancer

Stomach, shot to the left side of the stomach (or stabbed),
reproductive areas, liver, nucleation, left eye for men and right for
women. Convulsions and coughing fits, falling over of being pushed
over/shoved. Uterus and breasts. Fluid, solar plexus, diaphragm,
upper liver. Many different methods of killing. Perhaps the first way
didn’t work so they had to use another method. (Moon changeability
shows this sometimes). Also a killer than has different MO’s and
methods and travel. (Serial Killers, the Moon is important but that is
for another volume).

Injuries related to Venus or Taurus or Libra

Throat. Strangled, lust based crimes, diabetes, selling humans,
trafficking, sex trafficking, sexually transmitted diseases, Injury to
neck and top of chest. 26 degrees Taurus is an important point too. If
this position is very prominent it is an idea to look to the fixed star
Caput Algol. This malefic fixed star is severe head injury,
decapitation or burning from fire. Libra - Kidneys, loins, appendix,
lumbar vertebrae and the skin generally.

Injuries related to Mercury, Gemini or Virgo

Brain injury, illness of the mind, stutters or stammers (esp. if
retrograde), or speech too fast. Nasal and sinus problems
(remember to note these things because if you were looking for a
suspect and the description stated he had a really crooked nose
(broken) or he stuttered. This all compiles into the profile and when
you are getting to the fine details of a suspect, these things are
important. Assimilation of food is represented by this too (namely
Virgo and esp. Mercury in Virgo). The arms, shoulders, muscles and
bones in these, the lungs (including the trachea and bronchi), and
the hands. Virgo - The intestines, alimentary canal, lower part of the
liver.

Injuries related to Mars and Scorpio and Pluto

If Mars is found in the 7th house or it is the ruler of the suspect (7th
house cusp) it can be tricky because Mars covers a lot of territory.
One thing for absolute certain though is this person was angry,
violent and quick to kill. Blunt force trauma, head injuries, gunshots,
knives, stabbing and shooting, fire is associated too. The brain
faculties and the distribution of mental and physical energy.
Explosions and blood, arteries, muscles, Cuts, bruises, fevers,
inflammation redness and heat. If coupled with Pluto (in aspect)
there may be sexual assault and sadistic tendencies. (Esp. Mars in a
fire sign square Pluto). Anger through passion, lust kills. If Mars is in
the 7th or ruling the 7th, the death, it implies that the death was fast.
Scorpio - The organs of reproduction, bladder, gall, colon and
rectum.

Injuries related to Jupiter and Sagittarius (Pisces and Neptune)

Drowning can be represented by Jupiter or Sagittarius or Pisces. You
would think that only a water sign would be needed but that’s not the
case all of the time. Sometimes we can drown when our lungs fill
with our own blood and this is Jupiter. Drowning in the ocean is
somewhat different. Ribs, veins and arteries, blood, left ear and the
liver is important. The hips, thighs and the sciatic nerves. Pisces is
the feet. The person who Jupiter represents may have liver
problems, drinks too much or takes drugs. There is also other areas
it covers. Religious people are represented by Jupiter and
sometimes especially with Neptune or Pisces involved it means a
religious zealot who is on a mission to hurt somebody in the name of
god. Usually you would see a lot of 9th house activity and possibly
Neptune in the 9th or conjunct the MC (10th house). Some weapons
that may be used are a cross bow, bleeding out from any injury is a
Jupiter area. Poisoning and drug overdoses are represented by
Pisces, alcohol could be a factor. Neptune shows poisoning, the
lymph nodes and glands, drugs and alcohol. Jupiter and Sagittarius
shows a bow and arrow as a weapon, Compound bows etc including
ones considered for hunting.

Injuries related to Saturn and Capricorn, Aquarius and Uranus

Saturn rules the bones and the body of a person. When we are
looking for a person who is already deceased, it is important to look
for Saturn as this holds clues into the location of any remains. Hair
and bones.Veins. Saturn gives weak legs/knees and possible prior
surgeries on these, Teeth could stand out more than others, spleen
and any damage to the spleen is represented by Saturn. Machinery
involved, Animals involved, It predominantly rules the bones and
skeleton. Saturn is chronic so when related to Saturn or Capricorn
finding the person may take longer than normal. Even years. Esp
when it is on the 7th or 8th cusp or in those houses. Uranus in a
prominent position also shows us a quick death and explosions
(Uranus in the 4th or 8th house esp.)
 Appearance and Character
When we look at the charts, whichever chart we use, the last seen
or the event chart, the first important thing to note are the house
cusps, degrees and signs. Especially the 1st house and the 7th
house. These give us descriptions into how a person might look and
act at the time of the crime or incident. The sign on the cusp of the
7th house can show us what the suspect looks like (and planets in
the 7th) and the cusp of the 1st house shows us the victim’s
appearance and condition at the time. The 7th house naturally rules
other people in our lives, partners, business partners and open
enemies.

Here are a few keywords both ancient and traditional for appearance
and characteristics of the signs on the event chart cusps (mainly for
the 7th house or 1st for victims),

Aries
If Aries is on the seventh house cusp you can assume a suspect with
a rash personality and that the situation occurred quickly. There was
a lot of anger involved and the first person that should be looked that
is the partner of the victim. (As you would anyway). With any person
involved it may give a quick walk, with the head leaning forward
slightly. This walk is distinctive. Headaches, and sinus and eye
problems are the usual physical complaints of this position. Rashes
and acne on the face and shoulders sometimes occur. Broad
shoulders and slim hips are common. Often, Aries possess a
youthful charm. Blonde or light hair, Shapely eyebrows, Arian
features, reasonably tall, quick to anger, fast, fidgety and bores
easily. Aries people have strong and angular features, with a
prominent features. They can be athletic, of average build, the
physique gives an impression of strength and rawness.

Taurus
are born of a short and thick stature, big, broad men, beard in men,
high forehead, wide nose, wide short neck, dark ruddy colour, short
arms, thick hands, thick black hair, short legs, slow to anger but if
angered, very hard to please again. Females dainty and slender or
slim. Long thin neck and pointy hands. If Taurus is on the seventh
house cusp one can assume the suspects anger was over a longer
period of time and there may have been pent-up rage, (quite often
leads to strangulation). Dark and quick eyes, the lower lip bigger
than the upper; a neat, well-composed, and well-ordered body, can
be mean stature, affable, courteous, usually outwardly happy.

Gemini
gives a delicate, well-composed, and well-set body, good colour,
bright clear eyes, good sight, and piercing eyes, long arms, long
hands and feet, brown hair, good wit, fluent tongue, Young men
(under 29) usually, two people can be indicated and cousins or
siblings. If Gemini is on the 7th, please consider that two people may
be involved. There are many scenarios that I see with Mercury,
brother’s cousin’s neighbours and people who live nearby. Youthful
appearance intelligent and quick wit. Gemini can be chameleons
who can adjust to all situations.

Cancer
short stature, 15 degrees give a more full body than before, the
upper parts of the body are more thick then the lower, disorder in the
teeth, rounded pretty eyes and dark hair. Cancer on the 7th house
cusp can show us a few things, firstly it can indicate the victim was
taken by the suspect into the suspects own territory. It can indicate
female suspects. One should not rule out mother, stepmothers,
aunts or other women in the victim’s life.

The Moon can also be pale and whitely face, mixed with but a little
redness on cheeks, of an auburn hair, flow of speech, larger person
at times and phlegmatic, short arms, fleshly hands of a mutable
condition, often moving from place to place, seldom contented,
neither delighting much in action nor idleness. Mothers, step
mothers, women in the person’s life.

Leo
on the seventh indicates an older male. Any father figure, stepfather,
grandfather, authority, employer should be considered. The suspect
may have had prior heart conditions, back problems, scoliosis, and
obvious wide gait. Quite often blonde or light coloured hair round
face ruddy complexion and sometimes appear to have roseau. The
Sun in the 7th is very similar. Again it is an authority figure, father,
stepfather or older male. Leo can have strong features, thick hair
often blond or red.

Virgo
well composed body, mean stature, lovely brown complexion, pretty
but long eyes, thick black hair, subtle wit. Virgo on the 7th can
indicate a person that is in the victim’s life on a daily basis. Intelligent
and possibly related to any type of studies that the victim may be
involved in. Teachers or Professors should be considered.
Sometimes the suspect may have obsessive compulsive disorder.
Very neat organise and Virgo represents the organised killer. Gives a
person of a tall stature, black hair, long lean face, high forehead,
long straight nose, lean body, long fingers, and lean, long feet,
swinging arms or one arm; a wisty subtle man, full of talk.

Libra
gives a delicate, nice body, a round, fair, and well-favored face, hair
for the most part flaxen or light-brown, but sometimes black. A
cheerful well-spoken person, red lips, cherry-cheeks; a tall slender
body, courteous, impartial, just and upright in all their dealings.
Lawyer or legal position. The guy next door who people never
assume will commit such crimes. Good looking and outwardly kind.
Pleasant facial features and an oval face, Gives off the impression of
straightforwardness, placid, classy, sympathy and charm.

Scorpio
can give short stature, yet a big-limbed, full, and well-set body,
strong and active, willful, can be malicious, brown hair, dark sallow
complexion, quick in motion of body, but of reserved thoughts.
Piercing eyes and an intensity in the presence of this person. They
can hold deep internal grudges, look to prior relationship, ex-
boyfriend/girlfriend, jealousy and passion murder. Scorpio is sturdy
and has wide shoulders. The general impression gives an overall air
of charisma, power, secrecy, and serious. Well-built and resistant.
The face can be square with clear-cut features, They have a distinct

Sagittarius

Aquarius

Pisces

Alcoholism. Pisces on the 7th indicates the alcoholic, the drug

 Sie wollte erst zu ihrem Manne. Dann besann sie sich. Nein —

mußte in der Landgrafenstraße durchgefochten werden. Karla war ja
mit schuld an der ganzen Sache! Hatte Blumen von dem Manne
angenommen, hatte es gelitten, daß Vicki mit ihm im Tiergarten
herumspazierte vor ihrer Nase ...
Es war bereits sieben Uhr, als sie an der Klingel in der
Landgrafenstraße zog.
Karla saß im Schlafzimmer vor ihrem Ankleidespiegel und
summte leise ein paar Töne vor sich hin. Sie war so froh, in so
seeliger Stimmung. Heute war das große Fest in der Philharmonie
— Gaudlitz hatte drei wundervolle Teerosen geschickt, „zum
Anstecken“, in einem schlanken, schillernden Tiffanyglas. Ihr süßer
Duft erfüllte das ganze Zimmer wie mit einem Vorahnen allerhand
schönen Erlebens.
Karla hatte eben ihr neues Konzertkleid bekommen — weiß mit
gold. Sie hatte kaum die Rechnung angesehen.
Für den heutigen Abend war ihr nichts zu schön, zu kostbar. Und
ein jäh aufsteigendes Erschrecken über ihren Leichtsinn
beschwichtigte sie mit einem: Für Wien brauche ich es ja doch ...
„Bildschön sehen gnädige Frau darin aus“, hatte ihr die große
Schneiderin gesagt.
Daran mußte sie jetzt denken, und wie ein hüpfendes helles
Licht, so spukte ein immer wieder auftauchendes Lächeln über ihr
noch immer junges, hübsches Gesicht, vertiefte die schelmischen
Grübchen in Kinn und Wangen, die ihm so leicht etwas Kindliches
gaben ...
Oh, wie sie sich freute! — — —
Da stürzte fast ohne Anklopfen Adele in ihr Zimmer, hinter ihr
Luise. Und Luise rief:
„Ernst ... so komm doch, Ernst ... es ist etwas Wichtiges ...“
Da standen nun die drei Altmannschen Geschwister — Adele in
der Mitte, trotz ihrer Rundlichkeit wie Schutz suchend zwischen dem
Bruder und Luise.
„Hättest du mir doch gleich gesagt, Karla ... Es war deine Pflicht
... aber du zogst es vor, Heimlichkeiten mit Vicki zu haben ...“
So waren Adelens erste Worte. Nicht überlegt, ganz triebhaft
entlastete sie sich selbst durch die unsinnigste Beschuldigung
anderer.
Karla verstand nichts ... nur auf ihre Freude senkte sich plötzlich
eine schwere, schwarze Wolke ...
„Beruhige dich, Adele ... beruhige dich, meine Liebe ...“, sagte
Altmann und hielt schon Bodo Völkels Brief in der Hand; Luise las
über seine Schulter hinweg mit. Adele schluchzte und fiel auf das
Ruhebett, so nahe dem wundervollen weißen Kleid, daß ihr alter
Mantel es bei jeder Bewegung streifte, seine Spitzen verknitterte.
Aber wer achtete noch darauf ...
Hier wurde über zwei Menschenleben zu Gericht gesessen.
„Er ist ein Schuft, aber Vicki muß seine Frau werden ...“
Adele wiederholte es wieder und immer wieder.
Karla zog ihre feine, weiße Frisierjacke enger um die Schultern.
Es war ihr, als würde sie in Eiswasser getaucht. Wie schrecklich war
das alles ... Wenn er ein Schuft war, d u r f t e Vicki ihn doch nicht
heiraten! ...
„Sprich keinen Unsinn“, schnitt Altmann erregt ab.
Luise sagte gar nichts. Sie biß an der Unterlippe. Ihre lange,
hagere Gestalt drückte tiefsten Widerwillen aus, um ihren Mund
lagen Ekel und Empörung. Ihre starre, nie bedrohte Tugend faßte es
nicht, daß das Kind ihrer leiblichen Schwester sich so weit hatte
vergessen können. Aber schließlich sagte auch sie, wenn auch
stockend und mit tiefem Abscheu: „Er muß Vicki heiraten — er muß!“
„Den Kerl knöpf ich mir vor“, erklärte Altmann.
Adele griff nach seiner Hand.
„Ich wußte ja ... du bist der einzige ...!“
 „Aber wenn Vicki jetzt nicht mehr will ...?“ kam es scheu von
Karlas Lippen.
Adele sprang mit einer Behendigkeit auf, die in grellstem
Gegensatz stand zu ihrem sonst so würdevollen Wesen.
„Was heißt das: nicht will?“
„Ruhig, Adele ... ruhig. Auf Wollen oder Nichtwollen kommt es
jetzt nicht an, mein liebes Kind“, wendete er sich gleich darauf an
Karla. „Sie muß. Sie hat jedes Recht auf eigenes Wollen verwirkt!“
Karla nahm die Tiffanyvase vom Frisiertisch und drückte ihr
Gesicht an die Blumen.
Nun sprachen alle drei auf einmal ... die Schwestern machten
Vorschläge ... Altmann sollte Bodo Völkel aufsuchen ... sofort ... Er
war Leutnant der Reserve ... man könnte ihn vielleicht beim
Regiment ...
„Nein“, sagte Altmann. „Hat er nicht so einen Erbonkel, sagtest
du nicht, Adele? Ja? Also zu dem gehe ich!“
Adele schlug in die Hände, lachte beinahe. Es war wie
Schadenfreude.
„Ja ... zu dem ...“
„Selbstverständlich ... nur zu dem“, bestätigte Luise.
Und wieder sprachen sie durcheinander — bis Altmann mit einer
Bewegung Ruhe gebot.
„Seid unbesorgt ... ich bringe die Sache in Ordnung. In vier
Wochen ist Vicki verheiratet. Wenn der Onkel sich sperrt — so viel
kratzen wir noch zusammen, um ihnen ein paar Zimmer
einzurichten!“
„Selbstverständlich“, sagte Luise. „Wenn man sich zum Beispiel
ein paar Kleider weniger machen läßt, dann bleibt genug übrig. Für
einen Fetzen fünfhundert Mark auszugeben, das ist meiner Ansicht
nach ein bißchen übertrieben ... Ich meine nur, Karla ... man kann
sich’s auch billiger einrichten ... Daran darf doch das Lebensglück
unserer Nächsten nicht scheitern.“
 Das Tiffanyglas fiel hart gegen den Teppich und zersprang in
Scherben, das Wasser leckte in breitem Bächlein an Karlas
weißseidenen Schuhen.
„Nein — daran scheitert es nicht ... daran nicht — aber —“
Ein Zorn, wie er kaum je in ihr aufgelodert war, erstickte ihre
Stimme. Sie streckte den Arm aus.
„Geht! ... Im Guten sag ich euch, geht! ... Ich muß singen heute
abend ... Wißt ihr, was das heißt? Singen! Verdienen! ... Ja!
Verdienen! ... Damit etwas abfällt für ...“
„Karla ... hast du den Verstand verloren?“
Altmann warf beide Hände auf ihre Schultern und schüttelte sie
leicht, als wollte er sie zur Besinnung bringen.
Sie entwand sich ihm heftig.
„Ach laß ... laß mich ... seit du hier bist ...“
„Was, bitte? Sage gefälligst, was ... ‚seit ich hier bin?‘ Verdiene
ich zu wenig, ja? ... So sag’s doch gerade heraus! Bitte! Hast eben
eine schlechte Partie gemacht! Hättest dir’s überlegen sollen ...
Vorläufig genügt’s, um mich zu erhalten. Meine Pension hier bezahle
ich redlich! ..“
Adele überkam die Angst, daß das, was ihr am Herzen lag, in
Vergessenheit geraten könnte über das Neue, Böse, das sich
plötzlich zeigte. Eine Kluft hatte sich aufgetan zwischen dem Bruder
und Karla ... eine Kluft ... Nicht erst von heute.
Luise wechselte die Farbe.
„Was redest du, Ernst ... Karla dachte doch nicht daran ... nicht
wahr, Karla?“
Karla hatte sich abgewendet. Tränen hatte sie nicht mehr für das,
was von „denen“ kam, und ihrem Manne hatte sie nicht weh tun
wollen. Aber wahr blieb es ... Immer neigte er sich dahin, von wo
man ihn anrief. Sie hatte ihn lange nicht angerufen ... und so war er
ihr entrückt ... ganz weit weg, auf ein anderes Ufer — —
 Ganz lange ging man zusammen einher und merkte es nicht, und
dann — plötzlich — war es da, das ferne Fremde.
Nur so war es möglich, daß er ihr vorhielt, woran sie nie gedacht
hatte. Ob sie mehr verdiente als er, ob weniger — keinen Augenblick
war ihr das ins Bewußtsein getreten. Nur die anderen sprachen
immer davon ... Luise ... er selber ...
Es sollte alles nach ihrem Wollen, nach ihren „Anschauungen“
gehen. Auch Vicki mußte heiraten, ob sie noch wollte oder nicht!
Was galt ihnen inneres Leben? Sie sahen es nicht. Hatten es nie
gesehen —
„Verzeih, Karla, ich war erregt ... ich hatte unrecht.“
Es war selten, daß Altmann ein Unrecht zugab. Karla sah ihn
groß an. Aber in ihren Augen lag mehr Staunen als Freude — —
Luise schob sie an ihn heran.
„Vertragt euch, Kinder ... Einig muß man sein — einig. Dann trägt
sich alles leichter.“
„Na ja ... eben. Ich werde jetzt also ... das heißt, jetzt um diese
Zeit? Ein bißchen spät für einen Besuch bei dem Herrn Onkel ...“
Adele schüttelte den Kopf.
„Nein, nein ... gerade ... daraus sieht er die Dringlichkeit, das
Wichtige ...“
„Ich glaube auch“, unterstützte Luise.
Die Schwestern drängten ihn zur Tür, als es draußen klingelte.
„Geht ... so geht doch ... ich werde abgeholt ... und ich bin nicht
fertig ...“
Im Speisezimmer nahm Luise dem Mädchen die Karte von
Gaudlitz ab.
„Schon wieder der? ... Karla hätte wahrhaftig auch allein fahren
können —“
 Adele winkte ab. Wie ungeschickt Luise war ... was ging sie jetzt
Karla an und ein Herr, der sie abholte —? Um i h r e Tochter, um Vicki
handelte es sich!
Durch die Glastür des Empfangszimmers sah man Licht brennen
und den schlanken, großen Schatten eines Mannes. Es kostete
Altmann Überwindung, jetzt nicht hineinzugehen ... Aber Adele
drängte. Alwin — dieser „Waschlappen“, war zu nichts zu
gebrauchen! Er selbst mußte eben ... und wenn das Haus
zusammenstürzte — er m u ß t e ...!
Luise blieb eine Weile am Treppengeländer stehen und blickte
den Geschwistern nach. Ihre Lippen lagen hart aneinander, und ihre
Gestalt steifte sich wie in Abwehr gegen das Leben, das ihr erschien
wie ein großes Ungeheuer mit langen Pranken. Mit diesen Pranken
griff es ein in das stillste, verschlossenste Haus, mit diesen Pranken
riß es die Nächsten auseinander und zerfleischte ihnen das Herz.
Adele hatte nichts gesehen ... der Bruder sah nichts ... Spielerisch
gaukelte ihnen das Ungeheuer Freundliches vor — um sie desto
sicherer zu umgarnen, zu vernichten! Aber sie wenigstens wollte
sehen, wissen, wen das Ungeheuer sich hier ausersehen hatte, sein
Vernichtungswerk einzuleiten ...
Da drückte sie die Klinke des erleuchteten Zimmers nieder. Und
sie sah einen hochgewachsenen Mann im Frack und weißer,
seidener Weste, mit einer weißen Nelke im Knopfloch, einem
schrägen, blonden Scheitel und einem kurzgehaltenen blonden
Schnurrbart. Er verneigte sich und blickte ihr mit schönen, offenen
blauen Augen entgegen.
„Meine Schwägerin läßt Sie bitten, sich noch ein wenig zu
gedulden ...“
„Bitte sehr, Gnädigste.“
Einen Augenblick zögerte sie, dann fügte sie schroff hinzu:
„Meine Schwägerin hat sich sehr verspätet ... Es ist vielleicht besser,
Sie warten nicht ... meine Schwägerin fährt dann allein.“
„Ich habe keine Eile Gnädigste ... Ich werde warten.“ Sehr hart
konnten die hübschen blauen Augen plötzlich blicken.
 „Wie Sie wünschen ...“
Die Tür schloß sich hinter ihrer hageren Gestalt, noch ehe
Gaudlitz die grüßend geneigten Schultern erhoben hatte.
Karla vollendete hastig ihr Ankleiden. Die kleine Wasserlache
stand noch immer auf dem Teppich, umgeben von Glasscherben,
und die schönen sanften Teerosen lagen von Schritten verschleppt
und zertreten herum ...
„Nicht angesteckt die Rosen?“ war Gaudlitz’ erste Frage,
während er ihre Hand an die Lippen zog.
„Bitte nicht fragen ... ich war so ungeschickt ... oder vielmehr nein
... so wütend war ich ... bitte, bitte, nicht davon sprechen.“
Er fühlte ihre Erregtheit heraus, und sie tat ihm plötzlich so leid,
als hätte er alles aus ihrem Munde vernommen, was er sich ganz
allmählich zusammenreimte.
„Nein, nein ... liebe gnädige Frau ... nicht fragen und nicht reden.
Sie sind da und sehen wunderschön aus ... mehr will ich gar nicht
wissen.“
Vor dem Hause stand sein Auto. Auf dem Rücksitz lag ein großer
Strauß glutroter Rosen, mit breiter Schleife.
„Vom Komitee ...“
Stumm saßen sie nebeneinander. Gaudlitz wußte, daß man
Sängerinnen vor ihrem Auftreten Ruhe gönnen muß. Aber plötzlich
brach Karla das Schweigen, wie aus einem langen Gedankengang
heraus: „... und die wunderbare kleine Vase habe ich auch auf den
Boden geworfen ... Scherben sind alles, was geblieben ist ... Ich
könnte mich — ja wirklich, ich verdiene Ohrfeigen ... aber ich war
immer so ... Wenn mich der Zorn packt, dann — Wissen Sie, Graf,
ich glaube, das ist eben, wenn man zu früh aus dem Elternhause
kommt ... So, was man Erziehung nennt ... das habe ich eigentlich
nie recht gehabt. Erst später ... da haben sie alle an mir
herumerzogen ... aber das nützt dann wohl nicht mehr viel ... Darum
darf ich ja auch mein eigenes Kind nicht erziehen ... vielleicht kann
ich’s auch wirklich nicht ... es ist doch furchtbar schwer, scheint es ...
Selbst die besten Mütter ... wissen Sie, so die bürgerlichsten, meine
ich ... selbst denen gelingt’s nicht immer ...“
„Sie haben Ihr — Schmerzchen heißt es doch? — das haben Sie
wohl s e h r lieb?“
„Ob ich das liebhabe!“
Ihre Augen waren plötzlich wieder feucht. Er sah sie von der
Seite an und sagte: „Sie sind so wie Ihre Stimme. Alles Empfinden
quillt so natürlich aus Ihnen heraus. Meine Schwester wird vernarrt
in Sie sein. Wenn sie nicht den Reichenberg geheiratet hätte, sie
wäre gewiß auch zur Bühne gegangen. Sie hat lange Jahre bei der
Marchesi in Paris studiert ... ist durch und durch Künstlerin. Alles,
was Ruf und Namen in Wien hat, verkehrt bei ihr.“
Er brach ab und fragte unvermittelt: „Wird von Ihrer Familie
jemand in der Philharmonie sein?“
„Mein Mann sollte kommen und mein Schwager mit Frau und
Tochter ... ich habe ihnen die Freikarten gegeben. Aber — heute
kommen sie gewiß nicht ...“
Als Karla, von warmem Beifallsrauschen empfangen, das Podium
betrat und ihre Augen über das Publikum flogen, setzte ihr Herz
plötzlich im Schlagen aus. In der sechsten Reihe hatte sie Alwin
Maurer und Vicki erblickt. Vicki war sehr blaß und hatte dick
geschwollene Lider. Ihre Augen jagten unstet die Reihen entlang;
sehr oft wendete sie den Kopf, um hinter sich zu sehen. Alwin
Maurer hatte die Hände mit dem Programm übereinandergelegt.
Sein Gesicht war ruhig und drückte nur ein freudiges Vorgenießen
aus. Unter den Herren, die sich seitwärts an den Logen drängten,
stand Bodo Völkel. Er war kaum zu erkennen, weil er sich den
spitzen, dünnen Schnurrbart hatte abnehmen lassen. Jetzt trat die
harte, verbissene Linie seiner Lippen erst recht hervor, aber das
Gewöhnliche, vor dem Karla eine starke, unbewußte Abneigung
hatte, war verschwunden.
Karla hatte an diesem Abend ihren größten Erfolg in Berlin.
Immer und immer wieder rief man sie heraus, brüllte ihren Namen.
 Gaudlitz, umringt von einigen seiner Freunde aus dem
Automobilklub, fachte das Feuer der Begeisterung immer aufs neue
durch dröhnendes Klatschen an. Sie sollte mal eine recht große
Freude haben, die Karla König!
Und wie sie herauskam — nichts Gemachtes, nichts
Hoheitsvolles — auch nichts Herausforderndes war an ihr. Ein
einfach lieber Mensch kam daher, der dankbar war für die
Begeisterung, die man ihm entgegenbrachte ...
So empfand es auch Alwin Maurer und konnte es doch nicht über
sich gewinnen, ihr zuzuklatschen wie ein Fremder.
Vicki stand abgewendet vom Podium — ihre Augen suchten in all
dem Lärm und Rufen und Klatschen nur einen. Mochte die Mutter —
wenn sie erfuhr, daß sie mit dem Vater zum Konzert gegangen war
— sie schelten, sie schlagen, diese eine letzte Gelegenheit, ihn zu
sehen, mit ihm zu sprechen, mußte sie ergreifen. Ein letztes,
einziges Mal mußte sie sich an ihn klammern, ihn an ihre Liebe
erinnern ... Was wußte sie auch mit ihren achtzehn Jahren von
Männern, die für den Hund des Nachbarn mehr Gefühl haben als für
die Frau, die ein abgeschlossenes Kapitel in ihrem Leben bedeutet!
Sie stieß und ruderte sich hindurch zwischen den vielen
Menschen, wie geschützt durch den Aufruhr der Begeisterung, durch
den tosenden Lärm.
Und nun stand sie vor ihm.
„Bodo ...“
Flammender Zorn brach aus seinen dunklen Augen.
„Was wünschen Sie ...?“
Sollte das nie aufhören — nie? Sollte sie immer das Recht
haben, ihn aufzuspüren? — War das der Dank für die Schonung ...
den letzten liebevollen Brief? — Was wollte, was hoffte, was glaubte
sie? Hatte er ihr nicht hundertmal das Einmaleins des Lebens
vorgerechnet, hatte er ihren Zärtlichkeiten nicht gewehrt bis zur
äußersten Möglichkeit — mußte er eine Ballbekanntschaft, ein paar
Stelldicheine, ein paar leichtsinnige Liebesworte büßen bis an sein
Lebensende? — —
„Was wollen Sie noch?“ fragte er rauher, roher noch als das
erstemal.
Da senkte sie den Kopf und faltete stumm die Hände, lieferte sich
ihm aus, seinem Zorn, seiner Rache — ergeben, bedingungslos.
Ein Zittern überflog seine Gestalt, seine Nägel krallten sich in
seinen Handrücken ein. Keine schamlose Maitresse, keine
aufdringliche Liebeswerberin stand da vor ihm — ein junges,
keusches Geschöpf, ein kleines, hilfloses Mädchen, das ihm noch
einmal sein Herz hinhielt, sein zuckendes, blutendes Herz ...
„Du wolltest meine Briefe nicht mehr öffnen — darum mußte ich
dir’s sagen: meine Mutter hat deinen letzten Brief gefunden ... Ich
weiß nicht, was jetzt werden soll ...“
Kalter Schweiß trat ihm auf die Stirn, und einen Augenblick war
es ihm, als müßte er sich hier, mitten unter den Menschen, auf sie
stürzen.
„Du solltest doch ... keinen Brief solltest du nach Hause
mitnehmen ... Ich habe es dir doch verboten ... verboten ...“
Er schrie es fast laut heraus. Er hätte sie geschlagen, wenn sie
irgendwo allein einander gegenübergestanden hätten.
Sie schüttelte den Kopf.
„Ich konnte es nicht ... ich hab’ sie alle ... deine Briefe ... deine
lieben Briefe ... Keiner fehlt ... Jetzt werden sie verlangen, daß du
mich heiratest ... aber ich werde ...“
Er packte sie am Handgelenk, sah ihr in die Augen, haßerfüllt.
„Ich werde ‚nein‘ sagen,“ kam es mühsam über ihre Lippen, „das
verspreche ich dir ... nein ... du sollst wissen, daß ich dich wirklich
liebhabe ... wirklich ...“
„Pssst ..!“
Ein paar Leute drehten sich nach ihnen um.
 „Rücksichtslosigkeit ...!“
Vicki blieb wie erstarrt, mit halbgeöffnetem Munde stehen. Nichts,
was das Leben ihr auch bieten oder versagen würde, konnte der
Tragik und Größe dieses Augenblicks gleichkommen. Mit achtzehn
Jahren hatte sie den Gipfel all dessen überstiegen, was es für ein
Frauenleben an Heldentum und Demut gab!
Oben auf dem Podium sang Karla König ein süßes Wiegenlied.
Sie hatte gelernt, Lieder singen — den Frauen wurden die Augen
dabei feucht.
Vicki war es, als hielte sie dort oben ihr Herz in ihren Händen, als
wiege sie es ein: „Schlaf, mein Kind, schlaf ...“
Als sie aufblickte, war Bodo Völkel verschwunden. Da fiel sie hin,
zwischen die Stühle und Menschen — ganz lautlos und bescheiden.
Der Vorhang hatte sich über dem größten Akt ihres Lebens
gesenkt. — —
Karla war durch kein Toben mehr zum Wiedererscheinen zu
bewegen. Vom Podium aus hatte sie das Zusammensein Vickis mit
Bodo Völkel und ihr Umsinken bemerkt.
„Die Tochter meines Schwagers ist ohnmächtig geworden ...
mein Schwager ... ja, dort in der sechsten Reihe ... der Herr im
Gehrock mit dem kurzen, blonden Bart und dem welligen Haar ...
kleine Glatze, ja ... Das junge Mädchen liegt dort auf den
Treppenstufen ... ich fahre gleich mit ihnen nach Hause.“
Gaudlitz lief zu Alwin Maurer, setzte ihn mit wenigen Worten von
dem „kleinen Unfall“ in Kenntnis, lief zu Vicki, die mit gelösten
Zöpfen, totenblaß, wie aus einem tiefen Schlaf erwachend, um sich
blickte, und führte sie aus dem Saal.
In seinem Wagen fuhren Alwin Maurer, Karla König und Vicki
nach der Motzstraße. Karla hatte den Arm um Vicki gelegt und ließ
die jungen, heißen Tränen auf ihre Spitzen, auf den prächtigen
Goldbesatz ihres weißseidenen Kleides tropfen.
„Was ist denn geschehen ... was ist denn los mit dem Mädel?“
fragte Alwin Maurer.
 Karla winkte ab — und so bittend war der Ausdruck ihrer
schönen braunen Augen, daß er verstand. Nur um einen Schatten
blasser wurde er. Und er dachte, wie seltsam es doch war, daß alles
bei ihm zu Hause an ihm vorbeilebte, daß sich Schicksale wendeten,
ohne daß er auch nur ahnte, wie viel seine Nächsten der Vorsehung
ins Handwerk pfuschten ...
Adele stand drohend wie ein Strafgericht im Vorzimmer.
Zornbebend, hämisch brach sie aus:
„So ... das Fräulein amüsiert sich noch an einem Tage wie heute?
... Das ist ja ...“
Sie stockte, als sie Vickis Gesicht sah.
„Na ... na ...“
„Sei gut zu ihr ... Adele ...“
Alwin Maurer brachte Karla zurück an den Wagen.
„Willst du mir nicht sagen ...“
Karla schüttelte den Kopf; auch sie sah blaß und zu Tode
erschöpft aus.
„Was ist da zu sagen, mein guter Alwin ... Die eine trifft’s früher,
die andere später — Kummer und Tränen hängen wohl immer an so
was, und wer es gut meint, der rührt nicht daran!“
Alwin Maurer war hellhörig geworden in der letzten Zeit.
Erschreckt blickten seine fettumpolsterten Augen aus dem
grauweißen Gesicht.
„Karla!“ ...
Sie hüllte sich fester in ihren Pelz und warf sich zurück in das
Dunkel des Wagens. Sehr langsam, mit tief gebeugtem Haupt, stieg
er die Treppe wieder hinauf.
Da fuhr sie nun, die große Karla König, der Tausende eben
zugejubelt hatten, die große Primadonna, der die Pferde
ausgespannt worden waren und auf die ein Regen von Gold und
Edelsteinen niedergerieselt war ... fuhr nach Hause, einsam, mit
schmerzlichen Gedanken, in ihre kleinbürgerliche Wohnung, in der
sie sich nie heimisch fühlte, zu einem ewig schulmeisternden Mann,
zu einem Kinde, das eifernde Herrschsucht ihr fernhielt, zu Sorgen
aller Art, die sein — Alwin Maurers — Haus ihr noch aufgebürdet
hatte ... saß in dem Wagen eines fremden Mannes, der ...
Alwin Maurer fuhr sich erregt durch sein stellenweise schon
graublondes Haar. Er hatte den Blick des Mannes aufgefangen, als
er Karla in den Wagen geholfen hatte ... und ihren Blick ... so
vertrauend und dankbar und lichterfüllt ... Nein, nein ... wer es gut
meinte, der rührte nicht daran ... nie ...
Und jetzt erst fiel ihm Vicki ein — Aber die war ja noch so jung ...
und sie war Adelens Tochter ...! Ernstlich um sie bangen, das —
brauchte er wohl nicht ... ein kleiner Liebeskummer.
Er zog die Wohnungstür hinter sich zu — ganz leise. Wenn Adele
heftig zu dem Mädel wurde, dann ... dann war er auch noch da ...
Aber es war still im Gang. Er lauschte an Vickis Zimmertür, hörte
leises, ersticktes Schluchzen und die Stimme seiner Frau:
„... So sei doch vernünftig ... es wird ja alles gut ... wozu bin ich
denn da? ... Alles wird gut ... das mach’ ich schon!“
Da huschte ein blasses Lächeln über sein Gesicht. So ähnlich
hatte wohl auch Adelens Mutter einst gesprochen. Es blieb immer
dasselbe Lied ...
Um Vicki brauchte er sich keine Sorge zu machen!
 echs Wochen nach diesem Abend sollte Vicki Bodo Völkels
Frau werden. Sie hatte nicht viel gefragt, wie dieser
Umschwung gekommen war — vielleicht hatte sie im tiefsten
Grunde ihres Herzens nie einen anderen Ausgang erwartet ... Sie
war drei Tage so krank gewesen — das hatte er wohl erfahren und
war gekommen, sein Unrecht gutzumachen. Vicki glaubte noch an
die Romantik der Krankheit! Bodo Völkel widersprach nicht, und die
Mutter ließ sie bei ihrem Wahn. Alwin Maurer zeigte einen
Nachhilfekursus für Reifeprüfung an, ließ sich Privatschüler
empfehlen. Adele war bereit, zwei Knaben als Pensionäre bei sich
aufzunehmen. Aus dem Alleinbleiben mit ihrem Mann wurde nun
nichts, und die Arbeit im Hause vermehrte sich — aber mit Hilfe des
Bruders ließ sich die neue Wirtschaft einrichten und stützen.
Karla hatte den Erlös eines viermaligen Gastspiels in Leipzig und
eines zweimaligen in Hamburg ihrem Manne eingehändigt — für
Vicki. Ihre Sommererholung, deren sie dringend bedurfte, wollte sie
auf drei Wochen in einem kleinen Ostseebad beschränken.
„So wird es schon gehen“, meinte sie.
Altmann war sehr bewegt.
„Meine liebe Karla ... mein liebes Kind ... glaube mir, wenn es
nicht so ernst wäre, nie hätte ich gestattet — nie, daß neue
Ansprüche an dich herantreten. Aber, nicht wahr ... wenn es die
eigenen Leute betrifft — einer für alle, alle für einen ... daran habe
ich immer festgehalten, und das wollen wir auch weiter so befolgen.“
Sie nickte hastig, wurde rot, winkte ab.
„Ja ... ja, natürlich ... sagt es nur Alwin nicht ... dem ist es
peinlich.“
Luise bestand darauf, daß man das Brautpaar mit den Eltern zu
Tisch lüde.
„Wenn du meinst ...“, sagte Karla.
Ihr war auch manches peinlich, aber sie wagte sich nicht vor
damit. Es ging alles leichter, als sie gedacht hatte. Vicki war glücklich
und ungewohnt still. Selbst Fritz traute sich mit seinen kleinen
Anrempeleien nicht an sie heran. Völkel war höflich, beschränkte
seine Worte auf das Nötigste und zuckte kaum merklich mit den
Brauen, wenn Vicki nach seiner Hand griff. Er träumte von Palästen
und mußte aufmerksam zuhören, wenn die Schwiegermutter ihm die
Vorteile der von ihr gemieteten Dreizimmerwohnung pries.
Fritz fand den Schwager „schneidig“. Der hatte Haare auf den
Zähnen! Die „Weiberwirtschaft“ zu Hause hatte ihm schon lange
nicht gefallen. Vicki würde er „Kandare reiten“ ...
Einige Tage vor der Hochzeit kam Adele, die telephonisch
erfahren hatte, daß Karla noch auf der Probe war, an den
Bühneneingang. Sie sah sehr geschäftig und geheimnisvoll aus.
„Ach, höre mal, Karla, ich habe eine kleine Bitte an dich.“
Karla war abgespannt und lächelte müde. „Ja ... also, Adele, was
soll es ...?“
Sie schritt, trotz Müdigkeit, ihrer Gewohnheit nach rasch aus in
dem sandfarbenen Schneiderkleid, unter dessen Jacke eine weiße
Batistbluse hervorquoll. Ein flotter, einfacher Frühlingshut saß schräg
auf ihrem dunklen Haar. Wenn sie ging, raschelte das seidene
Futter, und ihr goldenes Täschchen mit den vielerlei Anhängseln,
das Geschenk einer in Brasilien ansässigen deutschen Kolonie,
glitzerte in dem warmen Gefunkel der Sonne. Wie sich die
rausgemacht hat, dachte Adele. Ein klein wenig Neid lag stets auf
dem Grunde ihres Wesens gegen alles, was sie überflügelte.
„Ja also, folgendes. Aber — dein Wort darauf, es bleibt unter uns
zweien — dein Wort?“ ...
„Gewiß ... gern ... mein Wort.“
Karla mußte jetzt lächeln über das ehrenwörtlich gehütete
Geheimnis zwischen sich und Adele ... Aber als Adele ihre Bitte
nannte, kurz fordernd, da verfärbte sich Karla. Es war wirklich eine
Zumutung! Sie sollte Gaudlitz — „du kennst ihn doch so gut“ —
sollte ihm Bodo Völkel als „selbständigen Baumeister“ empfehlen.
Gaudlitz hatte ein Grundstück gekauft in den westlichen Ausläufen
Berlins; ob ein Haus da erstehen sollte, ob ein Sportplatz — das
wußte noch niemand, aber die Gelegenheit war gegeben, und Karla
durfte nicht zögern.
„Du kannst dir denken ... da warten alle möglichen Leute darauf
... Bodos Chef glaubt natürlich, es kann ihm nicht entgehen. Aber er
ist ein widerlicher Ausbeuter ... wenn Graf Gaudlitz den mit den
Plänen beauftragt ... Herrgott, Karla, so mach’ doch kein Gesicht, als
wenn du vom Mond herunterfielest! ... Bei euch ist es doch gerade
so — einer empfiehlt den anderen. Du säßest doch auch nicht hier
an der Königlichen, wenn ...“
Adelens Stimme wurde weinerlich. Das war etwas Neues an ihr.
Da spielten ihr die Nerven mit, oder es hing wirklich ihre letzte
Hoffnung daran. Adele sprach von ihrem Alter, von Alwins
Gesundheit.
... Da hatte sie gehofft, ein bißchen ausruhen zu können — und
nun prasselten wieder neue Sorge, neue Arbeit auf sie herab! Karla
hatte es gut gehabt, hatte Isoldchen zu ihnen gegeben und war dann
frei gewesen wie ein Vogel in der Luft, hatte ganz sich selbst leben,
hatte tun können, was ihr gefiel .. Alwin und sie aber — sie
schleppten an der Karre jahraus, jahrein ... Fritz ... ja, gewiß ... es
war damals sehr gut und lieb gewesen vom Bruder und ihr. Aber
wenn sie nicht gewesen wären, dann hätte der Junge sich eben
doch bescheiden müssen und wäre nicht daran gestorben! Mit Vicki
aber war es etwas anderes! Da handelte es sich um Schicksal! Sie
beneidete das arme Kind nicht, wenn ihr Mann nicht vorwärtskam!
Ihr würde er alle Schuld aufbürden, sie als eine „Kugel an seinem
Bein“ betrachten! Und wenn sie es nicht mehr tragen konnte — was
dann? ... Dann flüchtete sie zurück ins Elternhaus, mit einem Kind
oder zweien! Und dann waren die Sorgen wieder da — größer,
schrecklicher denn je! ... War es denn gar so schwer, einen Freund
um etwas zu bitten, wenn davon das Schicksal der nächsten
Angehörigen abhing?
„Du brauchst ihm doch nur einen Brief zu schreiben, Karla, ich
begreife dich nicht ...“
Karla blickte geradeaus, und ihr Herz schlug plötzlich wieder in
kleinen, trockenen Schlägen.
 „Was Ernst ... was Luise dazu sagen werden ...“
Adele hakte sich ein, hielt Karlas raschen, gleichsam fliehenden
Gang zurück. Sie sprach leise und vertraulich.
„Ich sagte doch schon, Karla ... das bleibt unter uns zweien.
Denk, wie peinlich wäre es für Bodo, wenn alle darum wüßten! Er
hat so entsetzlich viel Ehrgeiz und Eigenliebe — er ist ein so
schwieriger Charakter!“
Schwer hing Adele an Karlas Arm. Wie ein Sinnbild war es.
Kraftwagen sausten an ihnen vorüber, Menschen stießen und
schoben sich an ihnen vorbei. Die Bäume knospten hell unter dem
blaßblauen Himmel, zwischen den hellen Häusern. Karla blieb
stehen und atmete die kühle, leicht durchsonnte Luft ein, wie einen
Labetrunk.
Wie hatte sie sich dort drüben nach dem ersten deutschen
Frühling gesehnt — eintrinken hatte sie ihn wollen, in jauchzender
Freude, wie die gesegneten Jung’ Frauen ihn eintranken in
fröhlichem Reigen auf dem Bilde des Botticelli ...
„So denk doch ein bißchen an uns, Karla ... haben wir es nicht
um dich verdient?“
„Doch, ja ... ich ... werde schreiben ... ich verspreche dir’s.“
Es kam ausdruckslos, matt von Karlas Lippen.
Sie standen vor einem großen Café, dessen breite
Fensterscheiben schon sommermäßig herabgelassen waren. Adele
drängte Karla in den Eingang, an einen der runden weißen Tische.
„Am besten, du schreibst jetzt gleich ... dann ist es abgemacht,
und niemand weiß etwas außer dir und mir.“
Sie bestellte etwas zu trinken, eine Mappe und Schreibzeug.
„Auf dem Briefbogen? ... Das geht doch nicht ...“
Es war ein letzter schwacher Einwand. Adele nahm aus ihrem
Täschchen einen bereits gefalteten Briefbogen im Umschlag. Sie
hatte an alles gedacht! Karla schrieb, zögernd, förmlich und kindlich
in ihren unausgeschriebenen, naiven Schriftzügen.
Die Nachschrift fehlte nicht, die den ganzen Brief umwarf, in dem
sie Bodo Völkel als einen der talentvollsten jungen Baumeister
empfahl, für dessen Empfehlung er ihr noch dankbar sein würde: „...
ach bitte, lieber Graf Gaudlitz — lassen Sie ihn kommen und geben
Sie ihm etwas zu tun, er heiratet meine Nichte, und sie sind beide
ganz arm. Wo die Krippe leer ist, da beißen sich die Pferde ... Ich
habe große Sorge um meine kleine Nichte ... wissen Sie noch, das
hübsche blonde Mädchen, das in der Philharmonie ohnmächtig
geworden ist? ...“
Karla las von ihr Geschriebenes nie nochmals durch. Hastig
schob sie den Bogen in den Umschlag ...
„Ja ... aber die Adresse ...“
Adele wußte sie auswendig. — — —
— — — An Vickis Hochzeitstafel in einem bescheidenen
Weinlokal der Potsdamer Straße wurde auf das Wohl des Grafen
Gaudlitz getrunken, der Bodo Völkel mit den Plänen für ein
stilisiertes kleines Bauernhaus betraut hatte. Der Onkel des
Bräutigams brachte das Hoch aus. Und er sagte:
„Am Talent meines Neffen habe ich nie gezweifelt — es mußte
sich nur mal durchsetzen!“
Die neue Nichte gefiel ihm gut. Es kostete ihn nichts. Aber er
fühlte sich als der Begründer eines jungen Glückes — denn er hatte
auf Altmanns Veranlassung seinem Neffen geschrieben, daß er ihn
enterben würde, falls er nicht augenblicklich und in aller Form um
Fräulein Viktoria Maurer anhielte. „Nicht acht und nicht drei Tage
Bedenkzeit — nur vierundzwanzig Stunden.“
Das hatte gewirkt. Dafür konnte er sich schon das Vergnügen
leisten, Vicki, sooft es anging, zu tätscheln und unters Kinn zu
fassen. Das kostete auch nichts.
Vicki hatte Karlas prachtvolle weiße Konzerttoilette als Brautkleid
bekommen. Der Goldbesatz war entfernt, und es schmiegte sich in
keuschen Falten an Vickis füllige Formen.
Karla mochte es nicht mehr tragen. Zu lieblos waren die Blicke
der Schwägerinnen darauf gefallen an jenem Abend, zu entsetzt war
sie über die Ferne gewesen, die sie an jenem Abend zwischen sich
und ihrem Manne gefühlt hatte, zu heiß hatte auch ihr Herz
geschlagen, als Gaudlitz in flüchtig zarter Liebkosung mit den
Fingern über den gleißenden Stoff gestrichen.
Vickis Augen leuchteten wie blaue Feldblumen nach einem
Gußregen. Bodo Völkel sah gut aus in Frack und weißer Binde. Er
sprach wenig und trank fast gar nicht. Aber wenn er lächelte, dann
galt es Vicki.
Und das war doch etwas.
 arlas Bitten, ihr doch Schmerzchen an die See mitzugeben,
hatten nichts gefruchtet.
„Du sollst dich erholen,“ sagte Altmann, „und es darf auch
nicht viel kosten. Wenn ich dir das Kind mitgebe, erholst du dich
nicht, und wenn Luise mitfährt, wird es zu teuer.“
Karla schlich bald um Schmerzchen herum wie eine Missetäterin,
bald wich sie ihm aus, weil ihr das Herz zu wehe tat, wenn sie an die
Trennung dachte und daran, daß sie dem Kinde nicht einmal ein
bißchen Seeluft geben konnte. Nun, nächstes Jahr verdiente sie
mehr ... Vicki brauchte sie dann vielleicht auch nicht ... Gastspiele
waren in Aussicht ... vielleicht — Wien ...
Sie hob das Kind zu sich herauf:
„Mein Herzschmerz, du ...“
Luise liebte Karlas leidenschaftliche Ausbrüche nicht. Ein Kind
mußte mit ruhiger Strenge und gleichbleibender Freundlichkeit
behandelt werden — zumal ein so nervöses Kind wie Isolde.
Eines Morgens, zwei Tage vor ihrer Abreise, wurde für Frau Karla
König ein großer, kunstlos gebundener Blumenstrauß abgegeben,
mit einem Briefe. Der Brief war unterzeichnet: „Ihre Sie
hochschätzende Alice Fürstin Reichenberg“. Karla wurden die
Wangen rot und heiß. Es war doch schrecklich, daß sie sich nicht
mal für die Dauer weniger Minuten abschließen konnte. In fliegender
Eile las sie:
„Verehrteste Frau! Verzeihen Sie meine unbescheidene,
nicht ganz übliche Bitte — aber eine kleine Verstauchung, die
ich mir beim Aussteigen aus dem Zuge geholt habe, fesselt
mich an das Haus. Ich hatte mich so sehr darauf gefreut, Ihre
Bekanntschaft zu machen, und Ihnen meinen Besuch
zugedacht. Würden Sie nun über äußere Förmlichkeit hinweg
einer armen Kranken ein halbes Stündchen Gesellschaft
leisten? Ich habe so viel Schönes von Ihrer lieben, herrlichen
Stimme gehört und glaube, daß Sie auch ein lieber, einfacher
Mensch sind, der eine erzwungene Formlosigkeit nicht
übelnimmt. Wenn Sie kommen, dann nennen Sie dem
