SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN GRADE 11 EMPOWERMENT TECHNOLOGIES

I. Objectives

Upon completion of this lesson, students will be able to:

 Explain the concepts of mean, median, and mode, with the ability to calculate each within a set of data
using MS Excel.
 Calculate the functions of mean, median, and mode
 Set up a datasheet in Microsoft Excel,
 Explain the steps to determining mean, median, and mode.
 Summarize the steps to creating a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.

Skills: Computing and Analyzing

III. Materials: PowerPoint, Laptop, Projector, Video presentation, MS Excel

IV. Procedure

A. Preliminary Activity

a. Greetings

b. Checking of Attendance

c. Review of the Past Lesson

Identify the different parts of the Microsoft Excel (Quick Access Tool Bar, Title Bar, and Ribbons)

Point out the different parts of the Microsoft Excel (Name box, Cell, Cell Referencing, and Constant

Value)

Identify most commonly used Excel functions (SUM, MIN, MAX, and AVERAGE)

B. Lesson Proper

a. Activity

(The teacher will ask the students if they know the game 4 pics one word)

Mechanics: The teacher will show four pictures and the students will guess what those pictures

mean.
Answer: EXCEL

Answer: SPREADSHEET
Answer: MEASURE

b. Analysis

 The teacher will ask the students what they think the topic for the day is based on
the pictures in the four pics one-word activity.
 The teacher will let the students watch a video YouTube tutorial on how use basic
excel functions, how to get the Mean, Median, and Mode using MS Excel.

c. Abstraction

 The teacher will ask the students about their observations on the video presented
 Then, the teacher will proceed in the discussion for solving Mean, Median, and Mode
using MS Excel.

d. Application

The teacher will assign a pair/group of students for every computer/laptop available to work
on with a hands-on activity. The student will be given 15-20minutes to finish their activities.

 1. Create a new file and enter the following data.

 2. Compute for the mean, median, mode and mode for the given set data.
 3. Give the standard deviation of the given set data.
 4. Save your file as Activity_Surname.
 5. Close your file.
 6. Call your teacher to check your activity

Given Datasets:

1. 8, 14, 4, 9, 17, 10, 8

2. 76, 80, 70, 90, 85, 84, 78, 80, 85, 87
V. Assessment

IDENTIFICATION: Write the correct answer on the space provided.

FUNCTIONS =MODE(B1:B10) =SUM(B1:B10)

=AVERAGE(B1:B10)
MODE=(B1:B10) =MEDIAN(B1:B10) =MEAN(B1:B10)

1. Built-in formulas you can use to make your worksheet construction easier.

2. The format/syntax of the Mean function is ______

3. The format/syntax of the Mode function is _______

4. The format/syntax of the Median function is ______

Answers:

1. Functions

2. =AVERAGE(B1:B10)

3. =MODE(B1:B10)

4. =MEDIAN(B1:B10)
VI. Assignment

Directions: Using Microsoft Excel find the mean, median, and mode of the following sets of data.

1. 78,64,66,72,81,77,66,63

2. 70,60,68,69,50,55
