Internship Reflection Paper
We are nearing the end of our internship. We only have three weeks to spare in enjoying
our training while honing our skills. The exposure to the working environment inside a company
of Nueca helps us see the systems and workarounds inside which gives us knowledge or
learnings necessary to develop our skills aligned to the field that we focused on. Although it
seems to be harder than we thought, we were able to adapt instantly to any demands of the
training. With the help of company stakeholders, we were able to know how a specific task is
done. The applications through hands-on experiences help us better grasp the daily works that
we are assigned to do. Words from the stakeholders like tips and advice also help us grow and
perform well in the working field. Opinions and suggestions were taken as a way of developing
oneself. The company employees do not individually but work as a whole which is one of the
main components of a successful businesses. We only not grow as interns in the company but
as humans who also need basic human needs in order to function properly. The wholebeing has
been developed also through rest in the form of meditation and some advice from the CEO of
the company.
The past weeks were quite hectic with lots of activities happening and scheduled work.
The first week was an exception, it was easeful and less work was done. I think that week was
preparing us for the incoming heavy work that requires ideas and knowledge on how to handle
one. The first week was basically focused on division of the team and conditioning ourselves. In
the first week of internship we expected that the deployment will be just here in Goa, but there
are some changes made and they decided that all interns will be training in Naga where the
Nueca HQ is located. We were shocked and somewhat disappointed at that point but
considerations were made in order to satisfy both parties which gave us hope that this
internship will be fun and worth it in the end. After that we were given an orientation about the
company’s background, rules and regulations, and other important information needed to be
applied while being inside the company and to understand how the company works online and
offline. We also watch meditation videos which are also needed in our weekly routine as an
employee/intern inside the company.
We were assigned to Hungrily plus (Operating office), one of Nueca’s products. Hungrily
plus, is basically a food delivery software made by Nagaueños. In the second week until sixth
week of internship, the routine was not redundant and was diverse. It gave us enjoyment with
less boredom due to different hands-on activities each week. The jobs that we handled were
customer support, hungrily data management (e.g. store account creation), merchandise
management (For Super Sari-Sari Store), and marketing. We were also given training or short
seminars for some key components in the Hungrily division, one of which is graphics designing
which is needed in the marketing side. These various assignments gave us an experience very
much similar to a paid job which really boosts our capacity as a future employee of a certain
company.
In the customer support division we were assigned to handle different customers. Our
main tasks were to interview and interact with the customer, partner merchant, and the rider. At
first it’s kind of hard to do it since I am not a typical person who interacts with a person
frequently and confidently. It was quite a difficult task for me since I am not used to talking and
dealing with a human. Since the tasks were divided and everyone should at least try, I tried it
and fortunately it gave me confidence and ideas on how to talk and deal with people.
Fieldwork is one of the best activities or hands-on jobs for interns like us. In the past
weeks, we acquired lots of partners for the app. If customer service is hard, especially when
dealing with people, fieldwork is harder than calling a virtual customer. Fieldwork is somewhat a
combination of marketing and customer service, although the people you are talking to are not
on a phone but in front of you. This is a heart throbbing experience, overthinking on what to do
always accompanied us especially at that time when we were individually tasked to find a
partner merchant. Aside from dealing with customers, you are going to deal with exhaustion
and the weather since most of the time you are going to jump from one potential merchant
partner to another. This activity really develops us since you will need to step out of your
comfort zone for you to finish the given task. You will learn how to personally talk to people and
deal with them, you will also learn how to devise a strategy in order for you to convince and earn
more merchant partners. Aside from that, this will test how passionate you are when it comes to
dealing with your work.
After conducting fieldwork, the data that has been gathered was used to create an
account setup. We usually use google spreadsheet in transcribing the data. This also helps us
practice how to use modern tools that are usually used in businesses. For instance, skills in
using spreadsheets is very important in modern businesses. Aside from data management, we
also manage the S4 or the SuperSari-Sari Store. The S4 management was very tedious as it
needs frequent monitoring on the merchandise inventory as well as sales that have been
acquired.
We have already managed to finish almost 90% of the total hours needed to complete
the internship. It gave me knowledge and experiences needed in our career and to prepare us
for our next journey. Hoping that the last few days of internship here in Nueca will be meaningful
and fun as well as give us more knowledge in handling work.
