MEGAFLEX belts are manufactured in thermoplastic polyurethane, which gives superior woar and abrasion resistance. Various grades of steel cords offer good running characteristics even with high tractive load. Great production flexibility grant to designers the possibility to match any technical requirement and solution. By selecting diferent components and materials, MEGAFLEX belts can be manufactured to mest every customer requirement, Mogadyno has expanded the MEGAFLEX range to include: MEGAFLEX FCM, MEGAFLEX XMD On request and with a minimum quantity, i's possible to produce MEGAFLEX FCM, made in sky blue colour (RAL 5012) and certified for direct contact with dry and wet food. MEGAFLEX FOM can be made with a special metal and X-ray detectable compound. MEGAFLEX XMD decreases the risk of contamination from belt fragments protecting consumer’ safety, MEGAFLEX MEGAECO BIOBASED & 8 MEG MEGAFLEX Megaco Bicbased is part of the Megadyne Megaico range, the sustainable belt slition for power transmission systems. This type of belts, developed by cur Research & Development, offar good running characteristics and high-traction loads. Thoy are especially suited for power transmissions and conveying with high loads and speeds. The addition of a nylon coating on the teeth during production ‘enhances the running properties for specific applications and reduces the noise thanks to a lower fictional coefficient. On the back of the belt an extra thickness of special coating s also possible, offering extra protection against aggressive or heavy products. 1. Tho body of tho bolts is made of a white thermoplastic polyurethane 92 ShA, characterized by high levels of wear resistance even in the presence of shock and surge loading: special compound on request (see on page 48). 2. High-strength nelicoidal zinked steel tension members allow high-breaking load and extremely low elongation. The combination of these high-grade materials improves belt performance, which can be summarised as follows: + oxcaptional resistance to abrasion and tooth shear + low coaficient of friction «high floxioiity ozone and temperature resistance (-25 °C / +80 °C} cil, grease, and gasoline resistance. Special compound and cords have to be tested and homologated fon the application. Megadyne is not responsible for the wrong functioning of ‘special product. Here uncer some PU characteristics WATER No problem in normal or sea clean water, at room temperature. ‘Over 60 °C there is a fast decrement of breaking strength, acips In acid diluted proportions, at room temperature, this PU is moderately attacked. In high-coneantration acid solutions, this PU has a vary short lfaspan, Over 50 °C, acids aro always dangerous for Thermoplastic PU ALKALIS In alkalis diluted proportions, at room temperature, this PU is moderately attacked. In high-concentration alkaline solutions, this PU has a very short espan. Over 80°C, alkalis are always dangerous for Thermoplastic PU. SOLVENTS Thermoplastic PU is insoluble in the greater part of solvents. Only the very polar solvents (like tetrahydrofuran, dimethylformamide, n-methylpyrrolidone) can dissolve or tight damage PU, The Esters or the Ketons (such as ethyl acetate ‘or methylethylketene) can usually produce a bulge, decreasing mechanical characteristics, Aromatic Hydrocarbons and alighatic Hydrocarbons produce very high bulge. All effects increase by increasing temperatures. ous PU has a high resistance to mineral pure ols (lubricants, engine oils, combustible oils). Usually, high-performance synthetic ols, dus to special additives contained, can be Incompatible with Thermoplastic PU, especially at high temperatures, GREASES PU has a high resistance to mineral pure greases (lubricating greases). Usually, high-performance synthetic greases, due to special additives contained, can ‘be incompatible with Thermoplastic PU, especially at high temperatures. FUELS ‘Good resistance to petrol without aleohol. In presence of alcohol, Thermoplastic PU can suffer deterioration, Fuels, including aromatic stuff, can produce reversible bulges, MICROORGANISMS In presence of grime, containing humidity, microorganisms can develop. In the event that microbial attack could pose a danger, you must use a special kind of PU, WEATHER AGENTS Good resistance to atmospheric agents. White colour can change into light yellow under long UV exposure. In any case this hasn't influence on mechanical properties. The lifetime of the support bearings and transmission belts and, therefore, the relabilty of the complete system largely depend on an optimally adjusted bel tension, Protension is the force needed to put tonsion into the systom to avoid the bok Not correct belt installation Jumping the pulleys as in the example beside: For a correct system installation, all applications with the MEGAFLEX belt can be summarized according to the following cases: Morr Power transmission Conveyor transmission In power transmission application, the pretension force is the load which has to bbe applied to the center of one of the driving system's pulleys in static concitions to avoid the derailing of the belt p= azarae] For omega and conveyor transmission’ In omega application, to grant good mesh between the pulley and the teeth and to respect batt flexbilty avoiding excessive stross on the cord, we suggest d= 4* belt width and angle y = 120°. PROCEDURE TO MEASURE The procedure to measure the tension of the belt Is to use belt tensioning equipment. Ths device consists of a small sensing head, which is held across the bell to be measured, The belt is then tapped to induce its vibration at its natural frequency. The vibrations are detected by the sensing head and the ‘reauency of vibration is displayed on the measuring unit. The relation between the belt static tension (T)) and the frequency of vibration {f} may be calculated using the following formula: ey bor Ten4emetee WHERE: 1, = sate tron {= Frequency oftraton in Hes 1 Blt mass per it rath Bn) Fee blt span erg meters For a cortect system functioning and to increase the life of the belt, it is necessary a correct pulley installation: pulleys have to be parallel and aligned {as shown in drawing 1 (correct configuration). If pulleys are not parallel ike in drawing 2, belt could fall during functioning and this can damage the complete equipment. To grant a correct belt running, a and Ax must be as small as possible.
