What is the Local Youth Assembly?


Local Youth Assemblies (LYAs) are platforms where youth can proactively
engage with each other and form networks and coalitions around issues that
matter to them. The main goal of LYA is to empower young leaders with
different opportunities to develop their competencies and skills and
transform their vision into innovative actions.

LYA is a project of Youth Leadership for Democracy (YOUTHLED), a five-year


program implemented by The Asia Foundation and supported by the United
States Agency for International Development (USAID). It aims to strengthen
youth participation in democratic governance through leadership
development, civic engagement, and youth coalitions.

Objectives
Connect with youth leaders and youth organizations and develop the
local youth networks.
Youth form coalitions and assemblies anchored on issues that they
prioritize.
Youth coalitions and assemblies create an enabling environment for
youth leadership development and youth-led projects.
Youth coalitions and assemblies become a platform for youth
participation in Philippine democratic governance.
The LYA in
Davao Region
LYA in Davao Region is divided into two
clustered provinces of the region. The youth
focused is based on the Stakeholders’
Planning held last July 5 and 7, 2023
in Davao and Tagum
cities, respectively.

South Davao Cluster: North Davao Cluster:

IGACOS, Davao Occidental and Cotabato Oriental, Tagum City, Panabo City and Mati

About the Youth Leadership for Democracy
Youth Leadership for Democracy (YouthLed) is a five-year program that
aims to increase civic engagement among Filipino youth, leading to a
strengthened youth participation in democratic governance. YouthLed is
implemented by The Asia Foundation and supported by the United States
Agency for International Development (USAID).

The program is composed of leadership development, coalition-building, and


civic education and engagement activities among young Filipinos aged
15 to 30.

YouthLed's approach is anchored on the principles of positive youth


development, creating an enabling and productive environment for
the youth.

About YGOAL
YGOAL is a social enterprise organization providing consultancy services specializing in
program development, training and development, and impact assessment. It has built a
robust network of 100+ consultants, 366 institutional partners, 467 collaborators, and more
than 40,000 online followers and members.

YGOAL was a Youth Engagement Partner of the Philippine Business for Education (PBEd)
and Foundation for the Philippine Environment on their youth development projects, reaching
more than 2,000 youths and 55 youth organizations.

The organization was also the facilitator for the youth engagement and leadership program
of the Gokongwei Brothers Foundation for their scholars and Plan International for their
YouthCares Project funded by AusAid. In addition, YGOAL was also chosen as the
implementation partner of the International Organization for Migration to handle the project
aligned with STEP BARMM (Supporting Conflict Transformation Toward Effective
Peacebuilding in BARMM) Conflict Mediation and Conflict Prevention Capacity Building for
BIWAB in the province of Maguindanao and the Special Administrative Areas of BARMM.

Running on its fourth year of implementation, YGOAL is the Philippine Linking and Learning
Facilitator of Voice – a grant facility funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the
Netherlands. It focuses on five rightsholder groups in the marginalized sector, including
youth as age discriminated groups, with more than 73 civil society organizations being
supported with capacity strengthening and grants.

YGOAL is the implementing partner of YouthLed for the Local Youth Assemblies to be
conducted in three clustered regions in Mindanao, namely: Northern Mindanao, Davao
Region, and CARAGA Region.
The Regional Youth Coalition:
LUPAD
The Leaders United for Progressive Advocacies of DAVAO-SOCCSKSARGEN
(LUPAD) is a coalition of youth-led organizations, youth serving-
organizations, and youth community and school leaders in the Davao Region
and SOCCSKSARGEN Region.

The coalition focuses on youth development, preservation of culture, history,


the arts, and tourism empowerment.
