Performance Standard The learner transfers learning by composing a
variety of journalistic texts, the contents of which
may be used in composing and delivering a
memorized oral speech featuring use of properly
acknowledged information sources, grammatical
signals for opinion-making, persuasion, and
emphasis, and appropriate prosodic features,
stance, and behavior.

knowledge and wisdom to understand every
lesson that we will be tackling today. This we ask
in the mighty name of Jesus, our Lord and
Savior, Amen.”

b) Greetings “Alright! Good morning class! Are you all ready for
today’s class? I hope you all have slept well and
have enough energy for our class today.”

c) Attendance “Before we start, kindly say “here” if your name is


called.”

d) Classroom Management “Okay class, please arrange your chairs and pick
up pieces of paper. Kindly settle down if done. So,
I would like to remind everybody of our five simple

e) Review of Previous Lesson/s “Alright, moving forward, let us take a brief recap

1. Motivation ACTIVITY: Investigate the Scene, Settle The
Mess!
Directions: The class will be divided into six (6)
groups. The game is a combination of four pics
one word and arranging jumbled letters. In this
game, the students will scan the four pictures
related to the topic. The jumbled letters will serve

as their guide to easily identify the answer. The


game will consist of seven rounds where each
group should have one (1) representative in every
round (every member should have the opportunity
to be a representative at least once). The first
person to shout “chicken” after I say “nuggets” will
have the opportunity to answer first. If the first
person answers wrong, other group
representatives will have the chance to steal. The
group with the highest score will receive bonus
points for the later quiz. The class will be given 5
minutes for this activity.

2. Lesson Proper Text types can be classified in a number of ways.


The following lists the more common text types
you read almost every day.

1. Narrative - refers to a narration of story that can


either be fiction (made-up story) or non-fiction (real
events). Its purpose is to entertain the readers
through telling a story.

Biographies (non-fiction).

2. Explanation - explains a particular subject or


topic through ideas that support it. It is a kind of
factual text that elaborates on how or why
something occurs or give information on how to do
something. Its purpose is to explain what, how,
and why a certain thing happened.

3. Expository - are informational texts that


present factual data on a topic through description,
sequence, comparison and contrast, cause and
effect, and problem-solution. It can utilize
diagrams, charts, and illustrations to support or
replace text. Its purpose is to simplify and expose
things, ideas, persons, and places through
educational and purposeful facts.

4. Procedural Text - lists a sequence of actions


or steps needed to make or do something.
Procedural texts are more directive and imperative
than explanations on process. They instruct
readers on how to go about processes.

5. Recount - retells past events which may either


be personal or factual. Its purpose is to list and
describe past experiences by retelling events in
sequence.

 Personal Recount - retells past events


that the writer was personally involved in.
Diary entries and short personal memoirs
are examples of personal recounts.

 Factual Recount - retells events that also


happened in real life but may not be about
the writer himself/herself.

6. Persuasive Text - refers to a text that intends


to persuade the audience to believe or change
mind. Its purpose is to encourage or convince the
readers of the merits of adopting a particular
viewpoint or taking a specific course of action.

3. Application Activity: Compatibility Test!


Directions: This activity will be done by the same
groups in the earlier activity. In this activity,
students are tasked to apply what they have
learned by performing a brief story about their
topic. Three groups will be set A; the chooser (top
3 from the earlier activity). Meanwhile, the other
three groups will be set B; the chosen. Each group
from set A will have to draw (draw lots) their topic
randomly, meanwhile, the other three groups from
set B will have to draw the manner of presentation.
Set A will choose the most convenient and
compatible way of presenting their topic from Set
B (the order of choosing will be done according
to who has the highest score from the earlier
activity). This activity will be done in 10 minutes,
with 7 minutes to prepare and 3 minutes for
the actual presentation.

4. Generalization Activity: Five chairs are lava!


Directions: Prior to the class, five questions are
placed randomly underneath five chairs. Students
are given 5 seconds to change places to avoid the
lava chairs that contain HOTS questions. Those
students who were sitting in the chair with a
question will have the pleasure to answer the
respective questions they got.
