NOKENG FLUORSPAR ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS INDUCTION

1. Fauna and Flora
Vegetation cannot be removed outside the boundaries of the construction site or the lay-down area without approval.
No harvesting of plants for medicinal purposes.
Apply suitable dust control measures such as watering in problem areas, if possible.
Do not feed, attempt to capture or kill the animals, if you are threatened or bitten by the animals, contact the Safety officer.
Do not enter prohibited areas unless permission has been granted.
2. Soil and Water contamination.
No fuel or waste is allowed to contaminate the soil or groundwater.
At any refuelling point, a drip tray shall be used to catch any spillage that may occur and the captured spillage is to be appropriately
disposed of.
No Servicing of vehicles will be allowed on site, only minor repairs, that do not include the use of fuels and lubes, are allowed and
will take place in a designated area.
Approved documentation must be obtained prior to performing emergency repairs.
No Hydrocarbons shall be discharged into any water source or drainage system.
Vehicle washing to be conducted in the approved bunded wash bay.
No vehicles to be washed in a manner that will contaminate the soil.
Do not urinate or defecate in the environment – use the toilets provided.
Do not waste water.
3. Waste Management.
Types of waste
Timber – crates, dunnages, pallets
Steel – metal shavings, off cut steel, discarded steel, reebar
Hazardous Chemical Substances – oils, lubes, paints, thinners, fuels, turpentine, sealant
General waste - Domestic waste, office waste, littering, polystyrene food containers.
Grey water – waste water from taps.
Sewerage – Human effluent.
Disposal of waste
Timber shall be stored in an approved area and then placed in the appropriate skip for removal.
Steel shall be stored in an approved area and marked bins and then placed in the appropriate skip for removal.
HCS shall be stored in marked bins for disposal.
General waste shall be placed in black plastic bags which are placed in the appropriate skip for removal.
Sewerage shall be removed 2 x weekly by Sanitech.
4. Hazardous Chemical Substances and Flammables
HCS will be stored in the HCS store.
Rapid Response Reference is available in the store.
Diesel fuel, Petrol and lubricants will be stored in the roofed over ventilated flammable cage situated in the Diesel bowser
containment tank.
HCS containers to be stored in drip trays or a bunded area and labelled.
5. Spillages
All hydrocarbon and HCS spills and leaks must be reported to the Safety Dept. as soon as possible after the incident so that cleaning
up and rehabilitation procedure can be instituted.
6. General
All environmental incidents must be reported to the Safety dept. immediately to facilitate prompt clean up and rehabilitation under
instruction.
Site driving rules must be adhered to.
Drive very slowly in dusty areas to prevent dust pollution.
Vehicles must be maintained to prevent noise pollution.
No burning of waste material nor vegetation on site.
No smoking in buildings, offices or vehicles. – Only in designated areas.
Only eat in the designated eating areas.
Report heritage artefacts or graves to the Safety Dept. – do not tamper with them
