Topic: Write a story which includes the words ‘When they entered the

room, we were impressed by what they were wearing’.

When they entered the room, we were impressed by what they were wearing. The young man had an
immaculate gait and stature and his parents were very well-dressed. I pretty much expected the worst
possible situation thinking about a drug addict who would walk in wearing torn jeans but it turned out to
be completely opposite. The young man looked very sober clad in an official outfit.

The family was very well-mannered and polite, the man looked like he really loved my daughter a lot,
but I was still not clear if I wanted to marry my daughter away to a white family. I was infuriated about
my daughter, Sadia’s relationship at first; she told me about it after I nearly fixed her wedding with
Ahmad Chacha’s Son. After the encounter I did not know if I should be elated about my daughter’s
choice in men or angry after her boyfriend, Zach told me that they are together since high school.

Zach ran his family business which manufactures displays for tech giants. Although, I knew my daughter
would be happy with Zach but I was pretty much worried about how our relatives from Pakistan would
react. At the same time while thinking about it, I felt very ashamed to have all these thoughts in my
mind while I was living in a generation in New York city where even men are getting married to each
other.

Probably, if my wife was alive she would not allow this but I could not think about anything beyond my
daughter’s happiness for me even if it meant to be the talk of the whole family WhatsApp group and
relatives commenting about me spoiling my daughter.

They were engaged a few months ago and today was the wedding which I forced my in-laws to do in a
Pakistani style and after all the ceremony we sat for the grand dinner. Suddenly a glass shattered behind
us and we all looked back.

It was my distant cousin, my grandfather’s first cousin’s elder son’s daughter, Kaneez and my only
relative living in the States. She probably never made any friends here for her religious extremism but
nevertheless I invited her to the wedding for blessing my daughter’s new chapter in life. She broke the
glass to grab everyone’s attention and shouted “This is wrong! We should not allow this, Allah will never
forgive us for such a sin.” We cooled her down with a few glasses of water but we soon forced her to
leaver the hall while she was shouting the whole time. I was happy to see the smile on the faces of my
daughter and my new son-in-law and there was nothing which could make me happier than seeing her
happy.
