ICASET may be established as a society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, with Indian Institute of Technology Rajasthan,

Jodhpur (IITJ) as the nodal agency to coordinate its administrative, research and development and operational activities. ICASET will have a Governing Council with representatives from the Ministry of Human Resource Development and Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (Government of India); IITJ, technology institutes and research centers; private sector solar equipment manufacturers, solar project developers, financial institutions, non governmental organizations; and an auditor. ICASET will also be aided by a legal team to assist and advise the Centre on all matters relating to potential legal implications of its activities, like intellectual property rights etc.

Rationale:
The rationale behind ICASET is the need for: Technical Expertise of Solar technologies in India Developing a cost effective way to support National Solar Mission (NSM) Reliable operational and performance data for various solar technologies in India Removing uncertainty of solar technology performance among various stakeholders

Objectives:
Complement NSM to achieve the National targets R&D through knowledge sharing and international collaboration

ICASET Strengthen domestic Solar industry and capacity building Promote indigenization to reduce capital costs

ICASET will form global partnerships with academic and R&D institutions, and companies working in the energy sector. Our Indian partners include the IITs, NFTDC, BHEL, and IOCL. Foreign collaborations for R&D have been initiated with CEA and AREVA (France), CSIRO (Australia), University of California, Merced (USA), Universities of Waterloo and Western Ontario (Canada). ICASET can use its unique position to be a knowledge hub for solar energy in South Asia using affiliate hubs and collaborations throughout South Asia Partnerships can aid ICASET in: research and development commercial testing, calibrating and benchmarking services systems engineering, performance and reliability assessment commercial engineering and design

Concept:
ICASET aims to be a world-class knowledge centre for solar energy ICASET will leverage its relationship with IIT, the premier technology institution of India to provide technology innovation in this sector and support the NSM

Functions:
The main functions of ICASET are: Fostering grid connected solar power Testing, benchmarking and calibration of CSP and PV equipment Capacity building Providing knowledge services
