The IEI is the first professional body to represent India in several

International Bodies, World Federation of Engineering Organization (WFEO),
Indian National Committee – World Mining Congress (INC-WMC),
Federation International du Baton (FIB), Commonwealth Engineers’ Council
(CEC), Federation of Engineering Institutions of South and Central Asia
(FEISCA), Federation of Engineering Institutions of Asia and the Pacific
(FEIAP), World Energy Council – Indian Member Committee (WEC-IMC),
International Professional Engineers Agreement (IPEA – Formerly EMF). It
also has bilateral agreements with a number of professional societies across
the globe.
Ever since its inception, IEI has been the forerunner in setting up national
standards for promoting the country’s industrial base which culminated on
the formation of the Indian Standard Institution (ISI), now called as Bureau of
Indian Standards (BIS).

formation of 2 years, TSC bagged Best State Centre award for 2018-19 and
2019-20. TSC has been playing a very important role in dissemination of
information on engineering and contemporary technology bringing industry,
academia, experts and professionals together on the same platform; by
regularly organizing International Conference / national Conventions / All
India Seminars / Conferences / Workshops and Round Table Conferences,
Panel discussions throughout year almost one programme / event every 4 th
day.

ABOUT THE SEMINAR

Artificial intelligence has become one of the most disruptive technologies

which is significantly impacting how an enterprise can monitor, optimize, or
control the behavior of operations and systems. Industry 4.0, the current
industrial revolution, is characterized by intelligent factories driven by a new
form of interaction between man and machine, allowing machinery to
communicate with each other and with the factory systems. Some of the
major applications of AI in the industry include OEE optimisation through
predictive repair and maintenance, Quality control, Generative design which
can simultaneously generate multiple design solutions valid for the same
objective, Robotics that support methodical or extremely precise tasks,
4
Supply chain management, HVAC automation etc. AI helps overcome many
inherent challenges that have been plaguing the industry: from scarcity of
expertise to decision complexity, integration issues, and information
overload.

AI when applied to physical systems of an enterprise presents several

challenges that differentiate it from consumer and business applications,
such as, difficulty in accessing training and test data; larger reliance on
subject matter expertise; harder to develop, train, and test AI models; and
greater costs associated with their failure. Despite the varying degrees of
applicability and research gaps that exist and need to be overcome, the
trend is undeniably towards increased implementation of AI-based tools.

A recent report by investment bank Goldman Sachs states that “the ability to
leverage AI technologies will become one of the major defining attributes of
competitive advantage across all major industries in the coming years. While
the strategy will differ by company size and industry, management teams
that don’t focus on leading in AI and benefiting from the resulting product
innovation, labor efficiencies, and capital leverage risk being left behind.”.
Hence, such multi-disciplinary knowledge and skills are increasingly in
demand across all sectors, seeking to ensure the competitiveness of their
enterprise in an increasingly technological context.

The proposed National Seminar will focus on concepts and challenges of AI

and related areas applied to various industrial applications. Objectives of the
National Seminar are to provide
 An overview of the current approaches in AI, Machine Learning and
Deep Learning
 An awareness of automation for industrial applications
 Details regarding use of AI for improvement of maintenance of
equipment
 Research guidance for industrialists and academicians
