I find myself gelling well with the team of diverse backgrounds and, hence have been often
considered to be a natural convener. This became apparent when I led the IIT Roorkee Team of 5
(comprising Electrical and Mechanical Engineers of 2nd & 3rd year, in Inter IIT Tech Meet organised
this year by IIT Guwahati). The same attribute helped me to be selected as SPOC for PARFI & IITR,
UBA activities
6. What have you been deeply passionate about, how much time do you spend on it and
what has been the outcome? (don’t make up an answer if there isn’t anything in
specific)
From the beginning, Sustainable development has been in my upbringing. It has resulted in my passion
for Energy and resource-efficient processes, which I find, gets portrayed in almost all my activities,
project selections and execution orientation.
Since the beginning, I have been privileged to get the opportunity to get involved in a charitable school (Khunti,
Jharkhand, 40 km away from Ranchi) as a part of my family engagement at weekends. From an early age, I had
a wonderful community development experience via Tree plantation, Rainwater harvesting, Midday meal
programme, Campus upkeep. The beauty/ significance of sustainable development naturally got dwelled deep
within me. I firmly believe that any progress is short-lived if we are unable to visualise the remotest stakeholder
and bring in positive and tangible impact in their lives.
Setting up of Mini Bank (Project duration January 2019-June 2019) in a rural locality near Roorkee, in
our UBA project with SBI, kindled passion in me.
Convincing villagers, irrespective of their financial status, for taking Bank services, has been an
interesting task. Though many one acknowledged the need, it was not easy to convert them as a
customer of Bank.
Mini Bank initiative held financial sessions in informal ways of discussion in Choupals or informal
gatherings through various anecdotes, which we discovered during interactions with villagers only. It
took us every weekend for 4 months at a stretch (excluding two weekends, one before mid sem/ end
sem exam each), to strike a chord with them. In the process, we identified some champions for the
cause in the village only and one Computer/ cyber Café in one of the tolas, willing to give services for
Bank. All paperwork, bank access etc., took two more months. Finally, a kiosk was established, which
served as a local teller counter for Villagers, with physical bank linkage through Chest Van, once in a
week or on call, if deposits increase certain value. The project has been of much satisfaction, with all
overwhelmed by villagers’ acknowledgement for us in the day of inauguration.
7. What is the only value that trumps over honesty for you, and why?
It is getting quite difficult for me to comprehend any values that may tide over honesty. Compromising
honesty does not seem sustainable. I believe honesty is the basic building block for any attribute, be it time
management, commitment towards any project or assignment, shouldering responsibility, sincere efforts,
discipline, housekeeping, maintaining integrity and respect etc.
This is true for self and professional life alike.
Imbibing the values of Truthfulness and Honesty of is core importance. Rest everything falls in place as it
leaves no room for an excuse for achieving any objectives
I plan for the near future while concentrating primarily on the present. This gives me the strength to take
control of activities and effort for whatever I aspire for.
Giving best in the present, be it any project/ assignment, academics, mentoring, etc., gives the best result.
This also gives, candid view of any improvement required and even an empirical viewpoint for mid-course
correction.
9. Describe the most important piece of constructive feedback that you have received.
What was it and how did you act on it?
Mentoring students of Ist year, in my II , III and IV year, has offered me very encouraging and constructive
feedback. While I have been appreciated for my passion for connecting with my group of students (CSE
students for Mathematics & ME students for Electromagnetic Theory), I have been told by caring students
to remain concise while deliberating any topic. I realised I was alienating some students when I was
explaining more than required. The position of TA has been great learning for me as it improved my
presentation skills for being crisp and at the same time explaining all the possibilities.
Last three years have been, very formative for me, as these are practically, first 3 years of my UG
programme in IIT Roorkee.
All my attributes, which even I was not knowing, got honed. The growth has been phenomenal to take up
the professional world along with society.
Pandemic for the last one and half years have taught the world about co-existence and environmental
concern. My temperament for Sustainable development got forged permanent. I actively participated in the
‘Wewin’ initiative of IIT Roorkee campaign during the second wave. As WeWin volunteers, we aimed to
support the Ist year students (who have started their journey in online mode) with continual engagement
to ease them adapting the college life, academic curriculum, and better understanding the institution’s
opportunities.
I am sure that these years will constitute a fundamental building block for my life. One of the realisations I
have kindled in myself is for lifelong learning. This I have started believing is a strength for me to take up
any challenges.
11.Please share anything else about your candidature, which is not yet represented, that
you would like us to note.
