Genre Re-Creation
'She`s The Man the movie is a Iascinating story about a girl that wants to prove
that she can be on a boy`s soccer team. This romantic comedy shows a whirlwind oI
diIIerent characters, challenging scenes and admirable acting. They do everything they
can to get their points across while making it entertaining. There are plenty oI ways to
demonstrate this story with diIIerent genres oI representation. A Diary/Journal oI Viola
Hastings is an amazing way to represent 'She`s The Man. One might say 'Why? and
there are so many diIIerent reasons why it works so much better.
One oI the reasons why genre is easier as a Diary/Journal and clearer is because
it`s all Irom her perspective. The Diary is her recollecting speciIic events within the
movie that she Ieels were the most important. Because it is Irom her perspective, you get
to learn things that you might not get to learn when just simply watching the movie. It
shows you a completely diIIerent side oI everything that happens because its being
written through the eyes oI one oI the characters. And to be more speciIic it is written by
the main character, which means that its super Iunny. You can hear her voice when you
read it and its almost like she`s right there with you Irom the way her personality jumps
out oI the paper. I chose the main character because she is the one that goes through all
oI the crazy events and I thought that it would be interesting to see what she is really
thinking while all oI these events are happening. The movie doesn`t get to show you that
0echslin
part. They show you all the things that happen and they add as much comedy as they
can, but you are seeing all oI the actors at one time. You are seeing them act out with
others and within society. You don`t actually get to get a glimpse oI what they are
thinking in their minds. What Viola was thinking about the last conversation her and
Duke had. What Viola was thinking when she started out pretending to be a boy at the
new school; all oI her emotions catching up with her between soccer and her gorgeous
roommate. Through the diary, you see all oI this. You see everything little thing she was
thinking when she went through all oI it. Which also leads to another beneIit which is its
super personal.
Journals are private diaries that allow us to express all oI our Ieelings Irom the
day. They let us be whoever we want to be and let us talk about anything we want to talk
about. In this case, Viola is writing down everything Irom her amazing experience she
had. She is taking the time to explain all oI the events and her thoughts on everything.
She also adds some oI her hysterical sarcasm, which allows you to read deep into her
personality.

*I think the diary was a great idea and a really good way to re-create the movie.
Everything in your paper looks pretty good so Iar, but to make it longer you should
expand on the events that you just mentioned in the paper. You can describe them more
and explain why you thought those events were the most important. II you still need to
add more to the paper, you can talk about what you could do with the diary to have it
reach an audience like the movie did, like publishing it and selling it in store Ior example.
Overall, everything looks great so Iar though! *
