SCENARIO II
You are working as medical officer in a village of
Rawalpindi. A mother comes to your OPD with a
new born child of 20 days with no previous
vaccination. She is concerned about required
immunization of her child.
TASK 1
What are EPI recommended vaccinations for this
child? (tell in detail timing, dose, route of
administration and site)
• At birth vaccines will be given now BCG, as
below 4 weeks, zero dose of polio & Hep.B
• Follow rest of schedule as such.
EPI Schedule in Pakistan
The Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI)
Pakistan protects children against following ten diseases:
1. Childhood tuberculosis
2. Poliomyelitis
3. Diphtheria
4. Pertussis
5. Tetanus
6. Measles
7. Hepatitis B
8. Pneumonia and meningitis due to Haemophilus
influenzae type b
9. Pneumonia and meningitis due to S. pneumoniae
10. Rota Diarrhea
11. Rubella
12. Typhoid

women of child bearing age?

VACCINE TIMINGS DOSE & SITE

TT1 As early as possible

TT2 One month after TT1 0.5 ml intramuscular


injection on upper arm
TT3 6 months after TT2

TT4 One year after TT3

TT5 One year after TT4


TASK 2
Why is rubella vaccination important for
women?
• Rubella vaccination protects fetus from
congenital rubella syndrome, an infection
that if occurred in early pregnancy can cause
serious birth defects.
• Rubella vaccine 0.5 ml, S/ C given
• MMR can be administered to young girls
preferably before marriage.
• If female is married, she should avoid
pregnancy for 3 months.
