BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY The Basic Education Curriculum (BEC) applied to all public schools in the Philippines is composed

of 8 subjects: English, Filipino, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Values Education, Technology and Livelihood Education, and MAPEH (Music, Arts, Physical Education, and Health). MAPEH education for fourth year students is very essential to the education curriculum and is a particularly important aspect to their lives. Therefore, the performance of the students depends mainly on the teaching method used by the teacher. Music education is very important not only to the education of students but also to their intelligence and personality development. Learning to play music requires use of the same portion of the brain that is used to solve math problems. Exercising these brain cells is probably why so many musicians are gifted in mathematics as well, according to The American Music Conference. Students who practice a musical instrument increase their analytical and problemsolving abilities. Arts education is equally important and in fact, research indicates that students become more responsible for their own learning, and critical thinking skills are promoted, when quality arts education programs are included in the curriculum. Arts education includes the visual and performing arts. Skills of observation, communication, and respect for the opinions of others are taught when students explore and discuss art. Critical thinking skills learned in art seem to transfer to other content areas, thus impacting learning across the curriculum. Physical education helps students become more aware of the different situations they may encounter in everyday lives regarding their physical well-being. There are many benefits students receive from high school physical education classes that contribute to students becoming responsible adults who are aware of the importance of a healthy lifestyle. High school

students retain a higher level of knowledge related to overall health that help them make educated decisions regarding their own health, safety and well-being. Health education is significantly vital not only to the educational prowess of the students but also to the proper feeding of information regarding different dangers posed to them by different materials and situations. Teenage and high school years expose students to a number of risks that range from unprotected sex and drug experimentation to behavioral and mental disorders. A 2002 study commissioned by the Seattle & King County Public Health Department and Seattle Public Schools Health Services reported that children who face fewer or no health distractions learn better and perform better academically than students facing significant health issues. Through education, high school health classes help students avoid many unhealthy activities and enable students to focus on learning. With all the significance of MAPEH education to high school students stated above, it may also be said that the method of teaching is of greater significance, for it dictates on how much the students will learn from their own instructors. Demonstration teaching is a very applicable teaching method to fourth year students in Bacoor National High School-Molino Annex, mainly because of the notable shortage for activity materials. Subsequently, demonstration teaching can also make notable effects to the performance level of the students. Therefore, the researcher is interested in determining if the demonstration teaching will have a significant effect to the performance level of fourth year students studying at Bacoor National High School-Molino Annex.
