Week of January 20, 2012

The Williams School works with each child to build an enduring foundation
for academic, moral, and social success. Williams School students embody
integrity, confidence, discipline, and a love of learning.

Dear Williams School Families,

Our annual Alumni Association series Heroes Among Us featured Admiral John C. Harvey,
Jr. this past Wednesday at the Town Point Club. The event was, as promised, memorable. Joining us were a
great mix of people that included parents, parents of alumni, grandparents, board members, friends in our
community, alumni, faculty and current students. Admiral Harvey spoke of the correlation of his own success in
the Navy being much like that of a students journey through school, stating that he could not have achieved
the success he enjoys today without the support and guidance he received from others along the way. When he
spoke of his childrens time here at Williams, he repeatedly made reference to our faculty and the important
part they played in his childrens lives. Prior to Admiral Harveys presentation, we were serenaded by Olivia
Behling (11) and Karen Jackson on the violin, and their musical talents impressed us all. The movie, Our
Three Words followed, prepared by our 8
th
grade and Debbie Adams. On behalf of The Williams School Girl
Scout Troop, Schaefer S. presented the Admiral with a box of Savannah Smiles cookies commemorating the
100
th
birthday of Juliette Gordon Low, founder of the Girl Scouts, and our TWS troops service to our military
forces. Wonderful candid shots of our students, taken by parent Susan Lowe, were on display and are now on
view in the Old Main foyer. Many of the traits depicted in the photos are the same traits described in the new
Alumni Association Award named in honor of Admiral Harvey.

Middle school students, teachers, parents, and guests report that Thursdays Guest Lunch was
enjoyed by all. Thank you to all who made our day such a success, especially our fifth grade students who
assisted with the event.

Have a great weekend!
Melanie
