CREATION OF A TRICKLE WATER SYSTEM THAT CAN BE

CARRIED OUT ON A SMALL LANDSCAPE TO REDUCE ON

FOOD SECURITY, PROMOTING IRRIGATION WITHOUT IRRITATION.

AIM; To reduce food insecurity in the regions like Karamoja, Teso,

East Central and South Western especially on a small landscape.
IDENTIFICATION
likely many other developing countries are vulnerable to the effects of climate yet it
contributes the least to global greenhouse emissions. The effects of climate change including
high temperatures, irregular rainfall and frequent drought are already being felt across the
country yet it is ill prepared to adapt and cope with its impact. The scale of vulnerability of the
consequences of climate. From the “UNFPA population brief of 2019’’states that vulnerability to
drought in Uganda e change includes water and food scarcity, bearing the greatest toll.
At the height of drought in 2017, an estimated 10.9 million people experienced acute food
insecurity of which 1.6 million were on brink starvation. The severe drought resulted in low crop
and livestock yields.
Thinking outside the box so as to help reduce this issue of food insecurity due to drought, I
decided that why not come up with a method that will help with the arising issue. So, i
concluded with a DRIP IRRIGATION SYSTEM also referred to as "trickle water system", a
present-day technique in which water is conveyed straight forward into the root zone of the
plant.

OBJECTIVES
● To ensure the effectiveness of the self-watering plant
● To produce a cost-effective product so as to be accessible for everyone

PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT

To reduce food insecurity such that it helps grow the plants, maintain the
landscape and reclaim distributed soil in dry areas due to the climate changes. This
system also has its advantages in a way that;
● Water is applied locally and leaching is reduced hence reducing growth
of weeds since there isn't enough water for them.
● Fertilisers can be used with high efficiency.
● Minimum operating cost
● No soil erosion
● Fertilisers and underground water is not mixed
● Water can be irrigated in irregular shaped landscape
● Low energy

JUSTIFICATION
Use of soil and water in my model so as to show the efficiency of the project
and use of some environmental items such as plastic so as to carry out reusing of
rubbish.

RELATED SUBJECTS
English is involved as i write my report related “report writing”
Agriculture is involved in making the project as i relate with|” soil”
Technology” WORD PROCESSING” is included as I type my report.
Chemistry is involved in a way that “WATER” is a topic hence application of knowledge on
chemistry.
Biology is involved because this project involves the topic “Growth and Nutrition of Plants.”
French is involved because of the project label.
Entrepreneurship is involved because this project is a business opportunity
Art is involved because of the project design.
Physics is involved as I include the topic of “MEASUREMENTS” and use the switch and
pump(tube) to do my project.
Maths is involved as Involve the idea of shapes like square, circle.

PROJECT PLAN
Collecting all materials needed.
Shaping the cardboard into a square
Painting of the cardboard.
Cut the egg tray into half.
Use a glue gun to glue the egg tray on the cardboard.
Cut out a bowl from the plastic bottle to act as a tank.
Get the battery and connect it to the tube(water pump).
Glue the ice cream sticks to act as a stand for the tank.
Put the fertile soil into the egg sections and plant the artificial plants.
Use of the straws to act as pipe connectors from the tank to the plants.
