I. Overview of Chemical Supplies in Hotel Management
1. Definition
- Definition of Chemical: A chemical is any substance that has a defined
composition. This means it is always made up of the same “stuff”. For example,
water (H₂O) is a chemical because it always consists of two hydrogen atoms
and one oxygen atom combined in a fixed ratio. In simpler terms, a chemical is
a substance that has a consistent and specific composition. (Source: Nuclear
Regulatory Commission).
- Definition of Chemical Supplies in Hotel Management: Chemical supplies in
hotel management refer to various chemical products used in different
departments of a hotel to ensure cleanliness, hygiene, and maintenance. These
chemicals are essential for maintaining a safe and pleasant environment for
guests and staff. They include cleaning agents, disinfectants, laundry chemicals,
and maintenance products.
2. Classification
- Chemical supplies in hotels can be classified into several categories based on
their usage and properties:
- Cleaning Chemicals
o Surface Cleaners: Used for cleaning various surfaces such as floors,
walls, and furniture. Examples include all-purpose cleaners, glass
cleaners, and bathroom cleaners .
o Degreasers: Used to remove grease and oil from kitchen surfaces and equipment.
o Carpet Cleaners: Specialized chemicals for cleaning and maintaining carpets.
- Disinfectants and Sanitizers
o Disinfectants: Used to kill or inhibit the growth of microorganisms on
surfaces. Commonly used in bathrooms, kitchens, and high-touch areas.
o Sanitizers: Used to reduce the number of microorganisms to safe levels, often
used in food preparation areas.
- Laundry Chemicals:
o Detergents: Used for washing linens, towels, and uniforms.
o Fabric Softeners: Used to soften fabrics and reduce static cling.

Page 3
o Bleaches: Used to whiten and disinfect laundry.
- Maintenance Chemicals:
o Descalers: Used to remove mineral deposits from equipment such as coffee
machines and dishwashers.
o Rust Removers: Used to remove rust from metal surfaces.
o Lubricants: Used to maintain and protect mechanical parts.
- Specialty Chemicals:
o Pesticides and Herbicides: Used for pest control in hotel gardens
and outdoor areas.
o Swimming Pool Chemicals: Used to maintain the cleanliness and safety of
swimming pools.
3. Functions and benefits of using chemicals in hotel housekeeping
- Functions:
 Cleaning and Disinfecting: Chemicals help in effectively removing dirt, stains,
and germs from various surfaces, ensuring a clean and hygienic environment.
 Odor Control: Certain chemicals neutralize unpleasant odors, keeping the hotel
environment fresh.
 Maintenance: Regular use of chemicals helps maintain the quality and
apperance of hotel furnishings and amenities.
- Benefits:
 Health and Safety: Proper use of chemicals ensures a germ-free environment,
reducing the risk of infections and illnesses for both guests and staff.
 Efficiency: Chemicals speed up the cleaning process, allowing housekeeping
staff to maintain high standards of cleanliness with less effort and time.
 Guest Satisfaction: A clean and fresh environment enhances the overall guest
experience, leading to higher satisfaction and positive reviews.
4. Regulations for Safe Use of Chemicals in Hotels
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Housekeeping staff must wear
appropriate PPE such as gloves, aprons, and masks when handling chemicals.
- Proper Storage: Chemicals should be stored in a designated area, away from
food and guest areas, and in their original containers with labels intact.
- Training: Staff should be trained on the proper use, handling, and
disposal of chemicals.

Page 4
- Ventilation: Ensure good ventilation in areas where chemicals are used to avoid
inhaling harmful fumes.
- First Aid: Have first aid measures in place, including eye wash stations and
safety showers, in case of accidental exposure.
- Labeling and Safety Data Sheets (SDS): All chemicals should be clearly
labeled, and SDS should be accessible to all staff.

III. Chemical Usage Proposal for Optimal Hotel Operations
A suggestion on the amount of usage for 1 kind of cleaning chemical for a 200-
room hotel at average occupancy percentage of 60% for a month basing on group
experiments on the chemical consumption.
- Suggested amount of floor cleaning chemicals from supplier CLEANCHEM
VIETNAM
 Multi-purpose floor cleaning and maintenance chemicals – All Clean Pro S
o Packaging: 1 plastic barrel with 18,75 liters of chemicals
o Dosage: 700m² per 1 liter of chemical (1000ml)
 1m² requires: 1000/700 = 1.43 ml of chemical
 Example for a 200-room hotel with an average occupancy rate of 60% in October
- Area of each room type and amount of chemicals needed for each room type:
 Standard Room: 80 rooms, each room area 50m²
2
o 50m requires: 50×1.43 = 71.5 ml ECO CLEAN S chemical
 Deluxe Room: 70 rooms, each room area 100m²
o 100m² requires: 100×1.43 = 143 ml ECO CLEAN S chemical
 Superior Room: 40 rooms, each room area 150m²
o 150m² requires: 150×1.43 = 214.5 ml ECO CLEAN S chemical
 Suite Room: 10 rooms, each room area 250m²
o 250m² requires: 250×1.43 = 357.5 ml ECO CLEAN S chemical
- Room occupancy averaged 60% in October
 In October, the hotel had 120 rooms/200 rooms in use
o Suppose 120 rooms are used including:
 50 Standard rooms
 60 Deluxe rooms
 7 Superior rooms
 3 Suite rooms
- The amount of chemicals needed for those rooms is:
 Standard Room: 50×71.5 = 3575 ml
 Deluxe Room: 60×143 = 8580 ml
 Superior Room: 7×214.5 = 1501.5 ml
 Suite Room: 3×357.5 = 1072.5 ml
- The total amount of chemicals needed for 120 rooms is:
3575 + 8580 + 1501.5 + 1072.5 = 14729 ml = 14,729 liters
- The total amount of chemicals needed to use for 200 rooms if in peak
season with maximum room capacity is:
(80×71.5) + (70×143) + (40×214.5) + (10×357.5) = 27885 ml = 27,885 liters
 Thus, a hotel with 200 rooms with an average occupancy rate of 60% in October
will use up 14,729 liters of multi-purpose floor cleaning chemical - ECO
CLEAN S. During the peak season, 200 rooms are used and will require 27,885
liters of chemicals.

Page 12
Conclusion
After a detailed analysis of chemical supplies in hotel management,
evaluation and recommendation of chemical suppliers, and a proposal for
the optimal chemical usage for a 200-room hotel with an average
occupancy rate of 60%, we have reached the following conclusions:
1. Overview of Chemical Supplies in Hotel Management:
Chemicals play a crucial role in maintaining a clean and safe environment
for hotels. Using the right type and amount of chemicals not only helps
save costs but also ensures the health and safety of guests and staff.
2. Evaluation and Recommendation of Chemical Suppliers:
Through the analysis and comparison between two suppliers, Vũ Hoàng
Chemical Technology and Environment Co., Ltd. and CLEANCHEM
VIETNAM JSC., we found that each supplier has its own strengths and
weaknesses.
 Vũ Hoàng stands out with high-quality products, environmentally
safe, and large supply capabilities. However, the costs may be higher.
 CLEANCHEM VIETNAM offers competitive pricing and flexible
customer service but may face difficulties in large-scale supply.
 Depending on the specific needs of the hotel, both suppliers are
potential options.
3. Chemical Usage Proposal for Optimal Hotel Operations:
The proposed amount of chemical usage based on an average occupancy
rate of 60% for a month for a 200-room hotel has been calculated in detail.
With the ECO CLEAN S product from CLEANCHEM VIETNAM, the
necessary amount of chemical for 120 rooms used in a month is 14.729
liters, and during peak season for 200 rooms, it is 27.885 liters.

In summary, selecting the right supplier and using chemicals correctly will
help hotels maintain a clean, safe environment and save costs. Thorough a
nalysis and evaluation of suppliers, along with the optimal chemical usage
proposal, will contribute to the success of hotel operations.
