spectacular! The celebrates kicked off with a lively “ PAWAI” , or parade, filled
with colourful floats and tradisional costumes, bringing the cummunity together in

22 each year. It honors the contribution of santri, or students of Islamic boarding
schools (pesantren), to the nation's independence and development. The day also

The celebration often includes various events, such as religious activities, cultural
performances, and community service, reflecting the values of Islam and the spirit
of nationalism. It’s a time to appreciate the efforts of santri in fostering social

organized, including:
1. Choral Competition (Paduan Suara) - "Ya Lal Wathon": This
competition features groups performing "Ya Lal Wathon," a patriotic song
that emphasizes love for the homeland. Participants showcase their vocal
skills and teamwork.
2. Creative New Works (Kreasi Baru): This event encourages participants to
present original creative works, which may include poetry, art, or innovative
performances that reflect Islamic values and national pride.
3. Nadhom Aqidatul Awam: This is a recitation or performance competition
based on "Aqidatul Awam," a foundational text in Islamic belief.
Participants demonstrate their understanding of Islamic teachings through

4. Bazaar: A bazaar is often organized alongside these competitions, featuring

long and takes 36 minutes to walk. The pawai is amazing. The children wear a
batik.
