Create Assets
1 Purpose
In this document, you create assets and assign them to a cost center.
This documentation describes how to create asset master records as part of the daily business
and in addition it describes how to create master records as part of a data migration (legacy
assets).
To run this process, a cost center must have been created.
2 Prerequisites
2.1 Business Conditions
The activities described in this document are part of a bigger chain of integrated business
processes or scenarios. As a consequence, you must have fulfilled the following business
conditions before you can start the activities described in this document:

2.2 Roles
Use
The following roles must have been installed to allow the relevant activities to be carried out in
the SAP NetWeaver Business Client (NWBC). In addition, they must be assigned to the user or
users who will perform the process steps described in this document. You do not need these
roles if you are not using the NWBC interface, but the standard SAP GUI.
Prerequisites
The business roles have been assigned to the user who is testing this scenario.

3 Process Steps
3.1 Creating Asset
Use
In this activity, you create an asset as part of your daily business.
Procedure
1. Access the transaction choosing one of the following navigation options:
Option 1: SAP Graphical User Interface (SAP GUI)
SAP S4H menu Accounting → Financial Accounting → Fixed Assets →
Asset → Create → Asset
Transaction code AS01
Option 2: SAP NetWeaver Business Client (SAP NWBC) via Business role
Business role Asset Accountant (SAP_NBPR_ASSET_S)
Business role menu Asset Accounting → Master Data → Assets → Create

2. Make the following entries on the Create Asset: Initial screen:

3. Choose Enter.
4. If you have entered an asset class with external number assignment you have to enter an
Asset Number on the Create Asset: Master data screen. Use the input help (F4) in the Asset
number field to see the possible number range values.
5. On the enter Create Asset: Master Data screen choose the General tab and make the
following entries:

6. On the enter Create Asset: Master Data screen choose the Time-dependent tab and make
the following entries:

7. Choose the Origin tab.
8. If required, enter the number of an investment order in the field Investment Order.
9. Go through the other tabs.
10. Enter other required fields as necessary (depending on the asset class).
11. Choose Depreciation areas.
12. Enter or change the depreciation keys and useful lives for the appropriate depreciation
areas, if required.
13. Choose Save.
Result
The asset is created.
3.2 Creating Asset (legacy asset)
Use
In this activity, you create an asset as part of a data migration (“legacy asset”).
Procedure
1. Access the transaction choosing one of the following navigation options:
Option 1: SAP Graphical User Interface (SAP GUI)
SAP S4H menu IMG Menu: Financial Accounting (New) → Asset
Accounting → Asset Data Transfer → Manual Online
Transfer → Create/Change/Display Legacy Asset
Transaction code AS91
Option 2: SAP NetWeaver Business Client (SAP NWBC) via Business role
Business role Asset Accountant (SAP_NBPR_ASSET_S)
Business role menu Asset Accounting → Master Data → Legacy Asset →
Create Old Asset
2. If you use the IMG Menu as mentioned above to access this transaction: Choose Create
Legacy Asset
3. On the Create Legacy Data: Initial screen, make the following entries:

5. If you have entered an asset class with external number assignment you have to enter an
Asset Number on the Create Asset: Master data screen. Use the input help (F4) in the Asset

6. On the Create Legacy Data: Master Data screen choose the General tab page and make the
following entries:

8. Go through the other tabs.
9. Enter other required fields as necessary (depending on the asset class).
10. Choose the tab Deprec. areas.
11. Enter or change the depreciation keys and useful lives for the appropriate depreciation
areas, if required. If required maintain the ordinary depreciation start date as well.
12. Choose Takeover values (Shift + F8).
13. On the enter Create Legacy Data: Master Data screen maintain the takeover values for each
depreciation area as required.
The accumulated ordinary depreciation values are not calculated automatically, so make
sure to enter the appropriate values wherever applicable on your own. If you like to have an
automatic calculation of these values you have to change a customizing setting via
transaction code OAYF.
14. Choose Save.
Result
The asset is created.
The transfer of legacy asset data using the legacy asset transaction does not affect the balances of
the corresponding reconciliation accounts in Financial Accounting. Therefore no automatic balance
formation or reconciliation takes place and you will need to manually reconcile the balances, if you
have to show correct values in the balance sheet. You can ascertain the Asset Accounting values
using of the asset list. When you start this report, specify January 1st of the current fiscal year as the

report date. The system will then provide data as of December 31st of the previous fiscal year (in
other words, no depreciation from the current fiscal year is included). You can adjust the account
balances using the transaction ABF1 or OASV.
