Harry Potter is an orphan who lives with his unkind Aunt Petunia, Uncle Vernon, and cousin Dudley. They
treat him badly, making him sleep in a cupboard under the stairs. On his 11th birthday, Harry learns from
Hagrid that he is a wizard. Hagrid takes him to Diagon Alley, where he gets his school supplies, including a
wand. He also learns that his parents were killed by an evil wizard named Voldemort, who tried to kill Harry
as a baby but mysteriously failed.
Harry arrives at Hogwarts and is sorted into Gryffindor House. He makes friends with Ron and Hermione and
learns magic in different classes. He also learns about Quidditch, a magical sport, and becomes the Seeker for
his team. Strange things begin happening at Hogwarts. Harry, Ron, and Hermione find out about the Sorcerer’s
Stone, a powerful object that can make someone live forever. They suspect that someone is trying to steal it.
They believe it might be Professor Snape, who always seems suspicious. The three friends investigate, facing
challenges like a giant three-headed dog named Fluffy, and clues that lead them to the hidden stone.
Harry makes it past several magical challenges to reach the stone. He is shocked to find that it is
not Snape but Professor Quirrell who is trying to steal it! Quirrell is working for Voldemort, whose
weak spirit is attached to the back of his head. Quirrell tries to take the stone, but when he
touches Harry, his skin burns. Harry fights back, but then everything goes black.
Harry wakes up in the hospital. Dumbledore tells him that his mother’s love left a powerful magic
that protects him from Voldemort. The Sorcerer’s Stone has been destroyed to keep it out of evil
hands. Harry learns that his bravery helped stop Voldemort from returning.
Harry, Ron, and Hermione are rewarded for their bravery, and Gryffindor wins the House Cup. The
school year ends, and Harry returns to Privet Drive for the summer. But this time, he is happy
because he knows he belongs to the wizarding world and has real friends waiting for him.
Feedback (strengths and weaknesses of the book) and Recommendations (How can the author improve the book?)
The strength of the book is that the magical world is exciting and fun to imagine nd the characters are well-written and feel real and
what I love about it is that it has adventure, mystery, and humor. My recommendation is that some parts are a little scary for younger
readers and I really want to know more information about Voldemort’s past and understand his side of the story.
Tips for maximizing reading experience:
Take notes on new magical words and spells and try to imagine Hogwarts in your mind while reading.
