agreement was signed by the council in full support of the UAP, RA9266, and the belief that the practice of architecture is the sole jurisdiction of architects and no other professional. This segment will discuss on the salient features of the Architecture Act, as well as updates on the progress of its implementation. It is, of course, the responsibility of the architect to fully understand the nuances of his profession as outlined in this act in order to defend it. b. The Mantle of Mentorship: The teaching profession is, more often than not, the road less travelled for a profession such as ours where the lure of the limelight -- designing and building -- is more seductive. But where would the mainstreamers be, not to mention those who have made it to the top, without the noble selflessness of our professors who have shared with their students their knowledge, experiences, and wisdom? These teachers, however, have found meaning in their own lives by investing in someone elses, in the hopes that their influence would bring about a more broad-minded, unselfish, and, above all, principled architect. Moreover, they have also made invaluable contributions to the schools educational efforts through their exemplary teaching performance and leadership within the education community which, through a trickling effect, reach down to the students who benefit from it the most.
a. Icons of Architecture: Travel the Philippines and see some of its most beautiful architectural landmarks. These landmarks may not belong to the highest bracket of the most famous but certainly they aren't less beautiful. This segment is dedicated to the countrys National Artists whose architectural practice and contributions have been recognized by the national government through its cultural arms, the Cultural Center of the Philippines and the National Commission on Culture and the Arts, to be of the highest excellence, not to mention the Likha Gold Medal awardees by the United Architects of the Philippines itself. b. Iconic Architecture: The label iconic recognizes well-established architecture which is beautiful, functional, a welcome adjunct to the social and physical environment, and a worthy testament to the culture of its time. Truly iconic architecture, the "haute couture iconic", is generated under two conditions: the design is groundbreaking and its location is sufficiently attractive to support the new building. The Eiffel Tower, The Burj, The Forbidden City, and the Sydney Opera House are good examples. This segment is devoted to those architects who have become starchitects by coming up with signatecture around the world. Through their alliance with foreign firms not only placed them on the world map, their experiences in the global field have also added a new dimension to their practice through out-of-the-box ideas, alternative methods, and tight collaboration.

Legacy
a. GREEEN: the New Philippine Green Building Rating System: Green is the way to go: Build green, and your family or workers will be healthier, happier, and more productive! Build green, and you will use less water and energy, benefit your local environment, and promote global environmental responsibility! Build green, and you will save money over the long term. What's happening now is that people are recognizing that building green creates long-term value, which is a little different than just long-term savings. The Philippine Green Building Initiative (PGBI), a conglomeration of several national organizations intent on saving the world one building at a time, recognizes the invaluable effect of implementing a green building rating system as an honest evaluation of any structures environmental viability, and as an opportunity to leave our future generations with a clean and green world to live in. The long wait is over! b. Windows to the World: The Filipino Goes Global: Undoubtedly, the Filipino is world-class and is sought after worldwide. In fact, our own architects have spread themselves across the globe, especially in the Middle East, the United States, Europe, and Asia. While the exodus of Overseas Filipino Professionals result in what has been referred to as "brain drain," their homecoming on the occasion of our National Convention shares a wealth of experience to the improvement of our organization and the furtherance of its mission to its membership and to the country.
Leadership
a. Achievements in Professional Practice: The UAP has been relentless in advancing the full implementation of the Architecture Act lest our profession be always in peril. Even during the recent ARCASIA Council Meeting in Vietnam, a memorandum of
