TRACK MOTOR (Travel Motor) SERVICE – Volvo EC300DL

The track motor (also called travel motor or final drive motor) powers the tracks for movement. It includes a hydraulic motor, planetary gearbox, and brake
system. Regular inspection and maintenance are key to avoid breakdowns.

⚙️1. Track Motor Components

Component Function
Hydraulic Motor Converts hydraulic pressure to rotation
Planetary Gearbox Increases torque and reduces speed
Brake System Holds motor when machine stops
Travel Speed Solenoid Controls high/low speed mode

Steps:

1. Park machine on level ground.


2. Remove top plug to check oil level.
3. Remove bottom plug to drain old oil completely.
4. Clean plugs and reinstall drain plug.
5. Refill oil from top plug hole until it reaches full level.
6. Reinstall top plug and clean the area.

⚠️Check for milky oil (water contamination) or metal particles.

🛠️4. Case Drain Line Inspection

 Measure case drain pressure to assess internal wear.


 High pressure indicates leaking motor seals or worn pistons.
 Normal drain pressure is typically < 2 bar (30 psi), check in manual.

1. Remove track chain from sprocket.
2. Disconnect hydraulic hoses (mark them for reassembly).
3. Unbolt motor from final drive housing.
4. Inspect O-rings and hydraulic fittings.
5. Send motor to rebuild shop if needed (piston motors are complex).
