Network Distributed applications

• Client / Server architecture (multiple Client and Server computers)

• More than one HMI Server
• Multiple Clients
• Redundant HMI servers
• Redundant Data servers

This type of application allows running Client / Server architecture (with multiple Client
and Server computers), which can be both local and remote. Allows for HMI Server and
data server redundancy. Data server can also be local or remote.

In short, the software programs behind a network distributed application - the FactoryTalk
Network Directory, HMI Servers, HMI Clients, and data servers - can be located on different
computers on the network; however, all the computers participating in a network
distributed application must point at the same Network Directory.
This application can be edited from the HMI server, or another remote computer that is
connected to the same Network Directory with FactoryTalk View Studio installed.

Licensing required:
• Each HMI Server requires FactoryTalk View SE Server license
• Each Client computer requires FactoryTalk View SE Client license
• Each programming workstation requires FactoryTalk View Studio Enterprise

Network Station applications

• One HMI server and one client on the same computer.

• FactoryTalk Directory Server, FactoryTalk Linx Data Server and the OPC Data Servers
can be located on remote computers.
• Redundant Datas servers supported

This type of application allows for Client/Server architecture as well; however, you can
have only one HMI server, but multiple local Clients. This is by all means a local
application, but it can connect to a network directory - meaning it is a local application
that can access data from remote computers, including FactoryTalk Historian and
FactoryTalk Transaction Manager.

In short, the HMI server and the HMI client are the software programs behind a network
station application that must be located on the same computer. The FactoryTalk Directory
Server, the FactoryTalk Linx data server, and the OPC data servers can be located on
remote computers. HMI redundancy is not supported in this application type, however,
data server redundancy is supported.

In FactoryTalk View SE v7.00, the application can be edited from the HMI server only with
FactoryTalk View Studio installed.
From FactoryTalk View SE 8.00, the application can be edited from any remote PC that is a
part of the same FactoryTalk Directory with FactoryTalk View Studio installed.

Licensing required:
• FactoryTalk View SE Station license for the machine containing HMI Server and Client
• Each programming workstation requires FactoryTalk View Studio Enterprise

Local Station
settings. applications
• One HMI server and one client on the same computer.
• Factory Talk Directory Server, FactoryTalk Linx Data Server on the same computer as
the HMI Server.
• OPC Data Servers can be located on remote computers.

This is a purely local application. All servers and client run on one computer. There is no
remote connectivity. This is all contained on only one PC.

In short, the software programs behind a local station application—the FactoryTalk Local
Directory, the HMI server, the HMI client and the FactoryTalk Linx data server—must be
located on the same computer. Only OPC data servers can reside on remote computers.

This application can be edited from the HMI server, or moved to a remote PC with
FactoryTalk View Studio. Once modifications are made, it must be moved back to the HMI
server.

Licensing required:
• FactoryTalk View SE Station license for the machine containing HMI server and Client
• Each programming workstation requires FactoryTalk View Studio Enterprise
