Name of Character: Benedict Arnold What role does this character play in your concept? (Narrator, protagonist, villain, sidekick, et cetera) Because General Gates believes that Benedict Arnold is an untrustworthy guy, Arnold starts out as a villain but he continues to progress and becomes more evil as the game goes on. What does this character do? (What is the importance of the character?) He is a basic commander and a flat antagonist who takes part of the officers meeting giving an evil smile but never speaking. He then rides into battle on horseback without permission and flanks the British fleet leading the Americans to victory. He is then knocked out and carried to a ship where he then announces that he is switching sides and joining the British and announces his plot against the Americans to give up West Point which will cause many American casualties for money, high ranking position and a winning side.

Postcard:

Dear Mom, I had a hankering for an apple so I went to the Boston Market to pick one up and I saw this finally dressed man wearing a blue coat with a feathered hat. I am fairly certain that it was an officers uniform. It made my heart fill with joy seeing this man in a uniform that is fighting for this country I almost enlisted but I know you need me to stay here and work to make up for Dad dying in the war. This guy never smiled not even once it had a sense of arrogance but his clothes had a sense of honor. He was smoking tobacco and intently watching a loyalist supporter. Family and Childhood: Benedict was born on January 14, 1741 in Connecticut. He was the second child born out of six but only Benedict and his sister Hannah survived into adulthood. His other siblings died of yellow fever in childhood. His father was a business man until he took up drinking and became an alcoholic. Because of this his father did not teach Benedict the mercantile business but his mother got him an apprenticeship at an apothecary. His mother prevented him from enlisting in the militia against the French in 1755, but two years later at sixteen he enlisted in the militia but served 13 days with some stories saying he deserted. His mom died two years later which made his fathers alcoholism worse. He became a pharmacist and married with children. He became a captain in the Connecticut militia in 1775.

Dear Hannah, I just got out of an officers meeting at the Saratoga. The other commanders are really rude and disrespectful. They ordered me not to go into battle, but I intend to go once the battle begins. I just sat through the whole meeting without saying a word so my intentions would remain unknown. Their battle plans are horribly oversimplified and I know what to do in order to guarantee a win for the American forces and I know I am the only one who would be able to accomplish this feat. My dear sister, I hope this does not break your heart but I have decided to switch over to the British side. I know now that we have no hope of winning this war and the British have offered to pay me a substantial amount of money to come and work for them. As you well know I am in a considerable amount of debt that has continued to grow after my second marriage. The British have promised me a higher military ranking than these colonial fools will award me and I am tired of being slandered and treated as if I am not beneficial to this Army. My name will be recognized. Much Love, Benedict
