FACTORS

A factor is a number which divides

the dividend completely without
leaving a remainder.
HOW TO FIND THE FACTORS OF
A GIVEN NUMBER??
Fun Facts about Factors
FACT 1: 1 is a factor of every number.

Ex: 5 = 1 x 5, 18 = 1 x 18 etc

FACT 2: Every number is the greatest factor of itself.

Ex: 21: 1x 21 = 21 ; 3 x 7 = 21. Hence, 1,3,7 and 21 are the factors of 21 and
21 is the greatest of them all.

FACT 3:Whenever a number is divided by any of its factors, there is no remainder.

Ex : 21÷ 3 = 7 leaving the remainder zero.

Fun Facts about Factors
FACT 4 :Every number has at least two factors i.e. one and the number itself.

Ex : 1 x 11 = 11. Hence the factors of 11 are 1 and 11.

FACT 5 : Every factor is less than or equal to the given number.

Ex : The factors of 18 are 1, 2, 3, 6, 9 and 18. All of them are less than 18 except 18.

FACT 6 : The number of factors of a given number are finite.

Exercise 3.2

A. Find the factors of the given numbers:

42
1 X 42 Therefore, factors of 42 are :
1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 14, 21 and 42
2 X 21
3 X 14
6X7
Exercise 3.2

A. Find the factors of the given numbers:

2) 54

54
1 X 54 Therefore, factors of 54 are :
1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 18, 27 and 54
2 X 27
3 X 18
6X9
Exercise 3.2
A. Find the factors of the given numbers:

4) 60
