Dr. Sterling M. Plata is an educational reform advocate who helps teachers, administrators, and
educational institutions to evaluate their curriculum standards and assessment practices that will
deeply impact on student learning. She has a Specialist Certificate in Language Testing and
Assessment from SEAMEO-RELC, Singapore. She is a full-time faculty member of the Department of
English and Applied Linguistics, De La Salle University-Manila. Dr. Plata is also a member of
CHEDs Regional Quality Assurance Team (NCR). Since 2000 she has conducted research on
assessment and curriculum reform.
She is also a member of three international organizations: the International Language Testing
Association, Association for Media Literacy, and the Association of Language Testers in Europe
(individual affiliate). Dr. Plata is also the editor of the elementary series NextGen: Reading and Media
Literacy for elementary and Quest: Adventures in Language and Literature for HS. Both series are
aligned with the K to 12 curriculum framework.
