Math, Reading, Writing, Spelling, and Science lesson plans for the week of April 23rd-April 26th

Monday (4/23) Reading: PASS OUT SPELLING NO READING AHEAD! Gray Wolf- Read book title & discuss wolves. Talk about blizzard. Read contents page. Picture walk. VOCAB: Coax, runt, swoop. What does character mean? How could the setting influence the character? Model Analysis. Hw: read p5-21 Diggers- Worksheet 1 (p17): Look at the title, authors, cover art. What do you think this book is about? What do you think would happen if you tried to dig a hole to the other side of the earth? Would you need special tools? Equipment? Midas- Read the title (ever heard of this book? Share!), traditional tale explanation, involves granting greatest wish. In Pink Books: If you could have any wish come true, what would it be? How would this Spelling: Writing: No - WTW: Read writing today together, sort (yellow sheets) words together on SMARTboard during class. FOR HW: Pop up words - WW: Look at Lesson 4. Thursday (4/26)

What is asbestos? What happened to the guy in the suit? Talk about volcanoes and then read page 15. Midas- What have we learned about Midas so far? Why did he make that wish? What does this tell you about him? VOCAB: greedy, statue, appeared. Read p 10-16. Why did he want to be freed from his wish? How does Midas change over time? Is he learning something about himself? Does he like it or not? Traveon- See Monday Reading: Spelling Tests! Gray Wolf- Digging Deeper exercise. Diggers- Read page 18 and 19. Talk about all the parts on the submarine and what they might be for. Design your own submarine with labeled parts. Color. Midas- Complete worksheet from the back of the card (but not theme). Talk about it together. Lesson and theme are not the same. Reality v. Fantasy.

Practice making judgments: What is more important than gold? How will this change Midas life now? Write: how will he spend his time from now on? (hint: not counting gold anymore) Traveon- See Monday NO
