Performance Task for Grade 6
Transfer Goal:
Students will be able to apply problem-solving strategies in real-life
contexts involving decimals, mixed decimals, and whole numbers
(including money), express creativity through poetry writing, and
demonstrate rhythmic coordination through music and conducting
patterns.
Performance Task (GRASPS)
Goal:
Your task is to solve real-life problems involving decimals, money,
and whole numbers, create a poem that connects math and music,
and perform conducting patterns that match the rhythm of a beat.
Role:
You are a young mathematician, poet, and conductor who will show
how problem-solving, creativity, and rhythm can work together.
Audience:
Your classmates, teachers, and school community.
Situation:
You are given a real-life problem scenario involving money and
decimals, asked to create a short poem that reflects problem-
solving and creativity, and perform a music activity showing how to
conduct beats properly.
Product/Performance:
1. Solve given multi-step routine and non-routine problems involving
decimals, money, and whole numbers.
2. Write a 3-line, 4-stanza poem inspired by your solution and
reflection on problem-solving.
3. Respond to music by demonstrating appropriate conducting
patterns (2/4, 3/4, 4/4).
Standards for Success:
Accuracy in solving decimal and money-related problems.
Creativity and clarity in writing a poem.
Rhythm, coordination, and confidence in demonstrating
conducting patterns.
Performance Task with 21st Century Skills

Values Integration and Reflection
Values: Perseverance, creativity, and self-confidence.
Reflection Guide:
What did you learn about solving real-life problems involving
money and decimals?
How did writing a poem help you connect math and music?
How did you feel when conducting to the beat? Did it build your
confidence?
Activity Title:
“Math in Rhythm: Problem-Solving Through Numbers,
Poetry, and Music”
Introduction:
Math and music are connected! In this activity, you will solve real-
life problems involving money and decimals, write a short poem
inspired by your solutions, and perform conducting patterns to
music. This shows that learning can be fun, creative, and rhythmic.
Instructions:
1. Solve the given word problems involving decimals, mixed
decimals, and whole numbers (including money). Show your
complete solutions.
2. Write a 3-line, 4-stanza poem that reflects your experience in
solving the problems and how math connects to music or life.
3. Practice conducting patterns (2/4, 3/4, 4/4) while listening to a
short musical beat.
4. Present your poem and conducting performance to your class.
Learning Resources/Materials/Handout:
Handout Title: “Math, Music, and Creativity: An Integrated Guide”
Description: This handout provides sample problems with decimals
and money, a template for writing a 3-line 4-stanza poem, and
visual guides on conducting patterns (2/4, 3/4, 4/4).
