This article presents a new feat and a set of racial utility powers for use with the death

knight: a racial variant of the revenant produced for the 2012 May of the Dead blog carnival. The original Death Knight article can found at the Beholder Pie blog.

NEW DEATH KNIGHT FEAT


A death knights bond with their weapon can vary in intensity. Those with the strongest bonds inevitably come to think of themselves as one with their blade.

Blade Bringer

Bladebound Boon
Girded to your blade through an unbreakable bond, your soul feels closer now to the steel than it does your own bones. Prerequisite: Death Knight Benefit: Gain two of the following bladebound boons. These powers are granted in addition to your normal powers. You may take this feat multiple times to gain access to additional bladebound boons. Balesblade
Bladebound Boon Power Your weapon glows with a baleful blue light that illuminates the hidden dead. At-Will Arcane Minor Action Close burst 10 Target: Your bonded weapon Effect: Your bonded weapon sheds bright light in a 5 square radius until the end of your next turn. Invisible insubstantial creatures become visible within this radius, but only to your eyes.

Bladebound Boon Power You extend your bony hand, and your bonded weapon flies to your grasp. At-Will Arcane Minor Action Close burst 10 Target: Your bonded weapon Requirement: You must have a hand free to use this power. Effect: Your bonded weapon flies to your hand.

Dancing Blade

Bladebound Boon Power The air temperature plummets around your bonded weapon, riming the ground in frost. At-Will Arcane Minor Action Close burst 10 Target: Your bonded weapon Effect: The temperature in Aura 2 around your weapon becomes freezing until dismissed as a minor action. This causes no damage, but water freezes rapidly, and prolonged exposure may cause cold damage at the DMs discretion.

Bladebound Boon Power Your weapon flies from your hand to harry your enemy, giving you a brief advantage. Encounter Arcane Minor Action Personal Requirement: You must be wielding your bonded weapon. Effect: Your bonded weapon flies from your hand to hover in an unoccupied space within 5 squares until the end of your next turn, when it returns to your hand. The weapon occupies its space while hovering and counts as an ally, but only for the purpose of flanking with you.

Deaths Sanctuary

Bladebound Boon Power Your bones may have crumbled to dust, but your bonded weapon is headed for home. At-Will Arcane Immediate Interrupt Personal Trigger: You die while wielding your bonded weapon. Effect: Your bonded weapon flies at speed 20 to a predetermined resting place. When it arrives, another person can use it as the focus of a Raise Dead ritual to bring you back to life. Your body appears next to the weapon when raised.

Sight from Steel

Bladebound Boon Power The flames dim in your eye-sockets, and for an instant you gaze at the world through your bonded weapon. At-Will Arcane Minor Action Close burst 20 Target: Your bonded weapon Effect: Until the end of your next turn, you determine line of sight from your bonded weapon. You do not need to see your bonded weapon to activate this power, and you do not need line of effect.

DEATH KNIGHT UTILITY POWERS


Those who wed their soul to the blade may find that the marriage reaps even more benefits than expected. When your death knight gains a class utility power after first level, you may forgo taking the power and instead take a death knight utility power of the same level or lower. Blade Gambit
Death Knight Utility 2 You give in to instinct, and let your weapon lead you in a wild parry. Encounter Arcane Immediate Interrupt Personal Trigger: You are hit by a melee attack. Requirement: You must be wielding your bonded weapon. Effect: Make a save. On a success, you gain damage reduction 5/all (per tier) against this one attack. On a failure, the attack deals damage as normal and you are dazed until the end of your next turn.

Iron Message

Death Knight Utility 10 You whisper a dread message and imprint it onto another mans blade. When a later event occurs, your words come back to haunt him. At-Will Arcane Standard Action Close Burst 2 Effect: You imprint a message of no more than 10 words onto a melee weapon within range. When a specific trigger set by yourself occurs, the message is spoken loudly from the weapon in your own voice, and the iron message is erased. A weapon can only hold one iron message at a time.

Death Sight

Death Knight Utility 6 Your deathly gaze cuts through the gloom. At-Will Arcane Minor Action Personal Effect: Until the end of your next turn, you treat squares of darkness with 5 as squares of dim light.
