Freeport-McMoRan Copper and Gold Foundation Scholarship Application

STUDENT CRITERIA Academic eligibility / criteria Must have a 2.7 overall GPA or better and be in good university standing. Must be enrolled full-time in Engineering and/or Mining related degrees (e.g. engineering majors, health & safety and business) with preference given to students entering their junior or senior year and studying Mining Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or Geology/Geological Engineering. Scholarships are available to students with U.S. citizenship or students attending a North American university with citizenship in Indonesia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Chile, Peru, Canada, Mexico or Australia. Work experience eligibility / criteria Students are encouraged to apply for a 10-14 week summer internship following each school year in which a scholarship is awarded. Available internships will be assigned through an on-line application and interview process which will be carried out by phone or at an agreed upon location (a Freeport-McMoRan operation or corporate office). Internship interviews will be conducted October through March of each school year for placement during the summer of each school year. Internships will be paid or unpaid, temporary positions. Students will be responsible for housing and other living expenses during the course of the internship. (Interns may be eligible for company subsidized housing where available. In instances where company housing is not available, a stipend may be provided to help cover some housing expenses). Further details will be provided during the interview and on-boarding process. Scholarship renewal is contingent upon academic progress and performance during summer internship and at the discretion of the University department staff and the Freeport-McMoRan review committee. APPLICATION, REVIEW AND SELECTION Process Students must apply through the University (visit http://www.fcx.com/about/scholarships.htm for a list of contacts). Applications will be received and reviewed by the University and forwarded to Freeport-McMoRan along with recipients recommended for interview. Freeport-McMoRan personnel have a right of refusal regarding selection of scholarship recipients. Selected recipients will be notified by the university or professional organization through which they applied. Freeport-McMoRan has the right to maintain contact with selected scholarship recipients to coordinate potential internship placement. Prior receipt of a scholarship does not guarantee a future academic year scholarship. Freeport-McMoRan will re-open scholarship application window to summer interns during the month of June for any funding not allocated during the regular application window.
