Facility Provision What is facility provision?

Facility provision is meant when local authorities provide sports facilities for the public to use. This tends to be sports centres or multipurpose sport courts.

Definition:
To coordinate, facilitate, advocate, and lobby for the provision and proper management of sport and recreation facilities

Example:
One example of facility provision is a company called Sport England. This company works in several ways to create better sporting facilities across the UK. One way in which they do this is by providing funding for local sports centres such as Aqua Terra. Here is a quote from their website Sport England provides a range of facilities and planning services that are designed to develop strategic planning for sports facilities across England. We try to ensure that the development of new sports facilities are underpinned by a robust needs and evidence base. We aim to improve facility design and modernisation to raise standards across the sector, with a series of detailed design guidance notes. We also fulfil our duties as a statutory consultee on playing field redevelopment.

Who Supplies the facilities & why?


Most sports facilities are funded by several sources, mostly the local council,Sport England and the National Governing Body of the sport in question. For example one scheme, known as Ping! which is funded by Sport England, sees nearly 700 ping pong tables being placed throughout 7 cities in the UK. A statement released says:
With 280,000 of National Lottery investment from Sport England, Ping! is delivered in partnership between the English Table Tennis Association and Sing London, the participatory whose citywide projects aim to lift the publics spirit.

What Sporting facilities do they provide?


Sports centre such as Culverhay, provide a wide range of facilities such as: Indoor swimming pool Indoor court Outdoor court Gymnasium Gym Lounge Washing rooms (showers, toilets etc.)

What does this kind of sporting provision enable people to do?


By adding more and more sporting facilities they will be encouraging families throughout England to get involved with sport. This in turn increases general health and community spirit. Do they run any community projects to encourage more use of the centre? Culverhay sports centre are unusual in that they are located on a school. This alone means that the centre is used every day by school students in the morning, some of which come back in the evening to use the facilities. They also run summer camps. One programme known asMEND tries to encourage kids to become fitter, healthier and happier. The class is free to use. The aim is reduce childhood and family overweight and obesity levels. The camp includes: Weekly games and activities Learning that being active is lots of fun Interactive sessions to improve self-confidence Practical demonstrations about healthy food
