Classification of disinfectants.
1. Natural - air and sunlight prevent the growth of micro organisms. The UV rays
present in sunlight also have disinfecting action
2. Physical – dry heat, ,moist heat and radiation sterilization
3. Chemical- solids, liquids and gaseous

Types of chemical Disinfectants


Disinfectants include the following:
(a) phenolic compounds,
(b) halogens,
(c) alcohols,
(d) aldehydes,
(e) gases,
(f) surface active agents,
(g) oxidizing agents,
(h) dyes,
(i) heavy metals, and
(j) acids and alkalis.
