Heat transfer enhancement techniques are widely utilized in many
applications in the heating process to enable reduction in weight and size
or increase the performance of heat exchangers.

These techniques are classified as active and passive
techniques. The active technique required external power such as
surface vibration, electric or acoustic fields.

Whereas the passive techniques required fluid additives, special
surface geometries or swirl/vortex flow devices i.e.; Twisted tape
inserts.

Moreover the passive techniques can play an important role in the
heat transfer augmentation if a proper configuration of the insert
is being selected based on working conditions.

New Technologies and new advanced fluids with potential to improve
flow & thermal characteristics are of critical importance. In recent years,
Nanofluids are promising fluids to meet and enhance the challenges.

Heat Transfer and friction factor data at various volume
concentrations for flow in absorber/Receiver and with and
without twisted tape inserts is determined experimentally (with
water and silver Nanofluid). The experiments show that
Nussult Number, friction factor and enhancement efficiency
are found to be 1.25 -2.10 times, 1.0 -1.75 times and 135%-
205%, respectively.

The experiments were performed with double counter twisted
tapes of four different twist ratios (y = 1.95, 3.85, 5.92 and
7.75) using air as the testing fluid in a circular tube turbulent
flow regime. The experimental results demonstrated that the
Nusselt number, friction factor and thermal enhancement
efficiency were increased with decreasing twist ratio.

Influence of perforated helical twisted-tapes (P-HTTs) on the
heat transfer, friction loss and thermal performance
characteristics under a uniform heat flux condition is reported.
The experimental results reveal that the use of P-HTTs leads
to the reduction of friction loss as compare to that of HTT. Heat
transfer, friction loss and thermal performance factor increase
as d/w decreases and s/w increases.

Heat transfer coefficient and friction factor of TiO

nanofluid
flowing in a double pipe heat exchanger with and without
helical coil inserts are studied experimentally. The heat
transfer coefficient and friction factor get enhanced by 10.73%
and 8.73% for 0.02% volume concentration of nanofluid when
compared to base fluid flowing in a tube.

This work deals with the experimental investigation on Nusselt
number, friction factor and thermal performance factor in a
circular tube equipped with perforated twisted tape inserts
with four different porosities of R
p
= 1.6, 4.5, 8.9 and 14.7%.
The experimental results revealed that both heat transfer rate
and friction factor of the tube fitted with perforated twisted
tapes were significantly higher than those of the plain tube.

This study presents experimental results of heat transfer
coefficient and pressure drop during two-phase flow of R134a
in a horizontal tube containing twisted-tape inserts.
Experimental pressure drop and heat transfer coefficient
results are presented, and also an analysis of overall
enhancement due to the inserts. The use of twisted-tape
inserts is suitable if applied to the high vapor quality region of
the evaporator and under high mass velocities.

An experimental investigation was carried for measuring tube-
side heat transfer coefficient, friction factor, heat transfer
enhancement efficiency of water for turbulent flow in a circular
tube fitted with rectangular-cut twisted tape insert. Heat
transfer enhancement efficiencies were found to be in the
range of 1.9 to 2.3 and increased with the increase of
Reynolds number.

fluid.. The experimental results of isothermal pressure drop for
turbulent flow showed that the dimpled tube friction factors
were about 210% higher than the plain tube.

The available literatures showed that numerous studies have been
carried out on heat transfer enhancement and pressure drop
characteristics in tubes with various geometrical configurations of twist
tape inserts with nanofluids.

However, no augmentation of heat transfer and friction factor
characteristics of nanofluids through a tube fitted with perforated
twisted tape inserts with different geometries and nanofluids with
different concentrations was reported.

Conventional heat transfer fluids have inherently poor thermal
conductivity compared to solids.

Nanofluids are a new class of advanced heat-transfer fluids
engineered by dispersing nano particles smaller than 100 nm
(nanometer) in diameter in conventional heat transfer fluids.

However, further augmentation of heat transfer could be developed
using passive heat transfer with the insertion of perforated twisted
tape inserts with different nanofluids.
In this research work, heat transfer augmentation in heat exchanger is
to be studied by considering different tape inserts and nano fluids.
