 Social behavior- Personal space: You should not stand too close to
people when you talk to them. Americans people find this
uncomfortable.
 Eye contact: In public, and particularly on public transport, people avoid
making eye contact with strangers. Most people either read or look
towards the ground slightly rather than at peoples’ faces. People in
America find it uncomfortable if they feel as though someone is watching
them.
 ‘Ps and Qs’ - in the U.S. are often told to ‘mind their Ps and Qs’ P is for Please and Q is for Thank u.

 Women in the U.S. are seen as equal to men, and should be treated fairly. It is normal for men and
women to do an equal share of the household tasks and childcare.

Germany
 Germany is a federal parliamentary republic of sixteen states. The capital and
largest city is Berlin.

 German people value honesty, hard work, and order.

 They connect more easily with people who they consider to be skilled,
prompt, and intelligent..

 German men are still considered to be head of the household, even


though both the wife and husband work outside the home.

 German families tend to be small with only one or two children.

 It is impolite to cross your arm over people who are shaking hands, as well as chew gum
in
public. Talking while your hands are in your pockets is also impolite..
Japan

Japan has the world's tenth-largest population, with about 128 million people.

 A major economic power, Japan has the world's second-largest


economy by nominal GDP and the third largest in purchasing power parity. It
is also the world's fourth largest exporter and sixth largest importer.

 It is considered disrespectful to stare into another person's eyes,


particularly those of a person who is senior to you because of age or
status.

 . Do not give lilies, camellias or lotus blossoms as they are associated
with funerals. Do not give white flowers of any kind as they are
associated with funerals.

 Bowing is nothing less than an art form in Japan, respect pounded into children’s heads from the moment
they enter school. For tourists, a simple inclination of the head or an attempt at a bow at the waist will usually
suffice.

 There is no tipping in any situation in Japan – cabs, restaurants, personal care. To tip someone is actually a

 As a student it is socially accepted to greet fellow students or
people the same age or younger than you by their first names..

furniture.
 It is customary to engage in direct eye contact with those who are talking to you, and when you are
talking to them. This is not disrespectful, but a sign of interest and sincerity. Australians will make direct
eye contact with everyone they come into contact with.

 It is polite to offer to assist with the washing up after a meal if eating at someone else’s house.
