Foreword
We are very thankful to Miss Siti Harinah for giving us the
opportunity and motivation to gain knowledge through this kind of
project. We also thankful to Madam Janawani Bte Saramalih for
giving important knowledge about How to make Candas. Which
proved as a valuable input resources for our project. Last but not
least, we are thankful to all our colleagues, friends and other
people who have directly and indirectly helped us during the
preparation of this project .

Introduction
For this task we have chosen the process on

making Candas as our topic and went to Kg.


Garama to interview one of the Candas maker
in this village. Her name is Madam Janawani
Bte Saramalih. She already dabble in this
candas making since 3 years ago. She had
learnt it from her mother.

History
Candas is the local Malaysian traditional
chopstick that was made from a bamboo and
rumbia stick . It usually used by Bisayan,
Brunei and also Melanau. It was use for eating
Ambuyat which is also made from rumbias
sagoo. For example, in Sabah candas making
is so popular in Pedalaman Bawah such as
Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Weston, Sipitang and
etc.

Obstacles & Solution


1 . Is it hard to find the Rumbia tree?.
It is easy to find the tree but its a little bit
hard to
make the small pieces of Rumbia
stick.
2. How long have you been making Candas?.
Since 2-3 years ago.
3. How to choose a good quality of the stick?
Need to choose the Rumbia stick more
carefully
4. What kind of protecting gears did you use?
Just a piece of cloth that used to covers the
fingers.
