EFFECT OF VARIOUS MINERAL

ADMIXTURES ON MECHANICAL
PROPERTIES OF
HIGH PERFORMANCE CONCRETE

INTRODUCTION
A concrete designed to optimized performance characteristics
for the given set of materials, usage and exposure conditions is
called high performance concrete (HPC)
High strength, high durability, high workability, resistance to
chemical attack, low permeability and diffusion and high
abrasion resistance
HPC grade range is 60-120 MPa

Admixtures

increase

the

strength,

durability

and

workability and reduce the w/c ratio

Mineral admixtures are fly ash, silica fume and ground
granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) used
Economical and environmental friendly materials from
wastes
Plasticizer

Superplasticizer

OBJECTIVE

To design HPC mixes with silica fume, fly ash or GGBS as

cement replacement and a control mix without any mineral
admixture for a characteristic compressive strength of 70MPa.

To study the mechanical properties such as compressive

strength, split tensile strength, and flexural strength of HPC
with various mineral admixtures.

PHASES
Phase I: Optimization of mineral admixtures dosage by varying
the cement replacement percentage and conducting strength
tests in that specimens of M70 grade
FA=>10-30%,SF=>5-20%,GGBS=>20-50%
Phase II: Compare the mechanical properties of optimum
dosage fly ash HPC, silica fume HPC, GGBS HPC and control
mix without any admixture
