HISTORY
Old town is a historic neighborhood in Chicago that has some interesting qualities:
- St. Michaels Church in Old town is one of the 7 buildings that survived the
Great Chicago Fire.
- The name Old Town comes from the Old Town Triangle Association which was
a guild that conducted art fairs in present day Old Town
- Originally, the first non-Indian Americans to inhabit old town were GermanCatholic immigrants.
- And During WWII, this streets of North, Clark, and Ogden (Old Town is within
these requisites) was assigned to be the neighborhood defense unit for
Chicagos Civil Defense Agency.

How Old Town Has Changed


One of oldest towns in Chicago, takes pride in its classic, historic-feel
Architecture wise, Old Town is home to most of Chicagos oldest, victorian-era
buildings; this includes St. Michaels Church, one of seven buildings to survive
the Great Chicago Fire. Other than a few restorations, it takes pride in
keeping its Old Town feel
Community wise, Old Town went from Chicagos Civil Defence Agency, to a
community of Hippies, to middle-aged upper-middle class adults and families
Where Second City started in 1959 and still exists
Old Town Art Fair, annual tradition since 1950
Takes pride and its non-drastic changes throughout history
