Synopsis
This course introduces basic concept in thermodynamics. Topics cover
are properties of pure substances, thermodynamics system, heat transfer
through conduction, convection and radiation, the first law of
thermodynamics for closed systems, open systems and their application
in steady-flow and unsteady-flow processes, the second law of
thermodynamics, entropy, introduction to refrigeration and steam power

Objectives

In the end of this course, students are

expected capable to

differentiate the state of properties from property

diagram and obtaining data from property table.
perform energy balance of a process for both closed
and open system by using the first law of
thermodynamics and the concept of entropy through
its reversible and irreversible processes.
apply the second law of thermodynamic in analyzing
the thermal efficiency of heat engine, heat pump, and
refrigerator and Carnot cycle.
