WHAT IS ADAPTIVE
LEARNING?
Adaptive Learning is a non-linear, interactive method of
instruction that adjusts to the knowledge and needs of an
individual learner, often through the use of computer-aided
instruction.
Adaptive Learning tracks the students progress at each
step and adapts the instruction material accordingly,
taking into consideration the strengths and weaknesses of
the individual learner.

Branching

Branching or Scenario-Based Learning is an

adaptive technique in which the learner is
presented with a challenge and a choice of
options for proceeding to the next step during an
instructional module, interactive video, or
embedded quiz. Each option results in a different
outcome or consequence for the learner.
Branching can allow the learner to progress at
their own pace depending on the accuracy of

Benefits of

ADAPTIVE LEARNING
Adaptive Learning is individually focused, tailored to
a learners unique capabilities.
Adaptive Learning allows the learner to proceed at
their own pace, where the material is adapted based
on the learners responses.
Adaptive Learning can be implemented in distance
learning educational settings, where students may
vary widely in their ability levels.

Potential Challenges in

ADAPTIVE LEARNING
Adaptive Learning often relies heavily on technology
and interactivity. Therefore, it may not be ideal for
learning environments with little access to interactive
technology.
Adaptive Learning often involves expensive
software implementation and elements of artificial
intelligence, which
may be impractical for low-budget educational

CONCLUSION
Adaptive Learning is an approach that offers
students the opportunity to engage in an active
experience that is customized based on their individual
progress. By using multimedia modules, interactive
videos, embedded quizzes and graphics, instructors can
integrate adaptive techniques to reach students on a
global platform and tailor content to target each
