Introduction:
Two

Engine.
A multi-cylinder engine is a reciprocating

internal combustion engine with multiple

cylinders.
It can be either a 2-stroke or 4-stroke
engine, and can be either Diesel or
Spark-Ignition.

Case study:
Naik, S. Redon, F., Regner, G., and Koszewnik, J.,
(14/01/2015)
This paper provides a detailed overview of the opposed-piston
multi-cylinder test engine's indicated thermal efficiency,
friction and pumping losses.

Basic principal :
A multiple-cylinder engine is delivering higher
revolution per minute (RPM) than a singlecylinder engine.
Obtain High power and also efficiency of the
engine/system.

Purpose of multi cylinder :

Now a days a industry or other faculty
demandeds for a large power for manufacturing
their own product , a multi cylinder fulfill the
all equirements over a single cylinder.

Multi-Cylinder Modeling
and Correlation:
1. The first step is a correlating the 1-D model
to test cell measurements. This allows for
accurate determination of in-cylinder heat
transfer, trapped composition, friction
losses and pumping losses.
2. Step two involves assessing what model
changes and assumptions will be necessary
to make the proper prediction

360 degrees rotation of crankshaft completes the cycle.

Field of Implementation
1. In airplane.
2. Military Vehicle.
3. Industrial Plant.

1. Diesel engines for combat tanks:

2.Multi-cylinder engines for infantry fighting vehicles

(IFV)

3.Diesel engines for military heavy trucks

4.Diesel engines for special purpose vehicles

(i.e. emergency vehicles, fire trucks, etc.)

Advantages
:
In multi cylinder Two stroke engines do not have

valves, which simplifies their construction and

lowers their weight.
Multi-cylinder Two-stroke engines fire once every
revolution, while four-stroke engines fire once
every other revolution. This gives two-stroke
engines a significant power boost.
High efficiency obtain by multi cylinder.
These advantages make two-stroke engines
lighter, simpler and less expensive to
manufacture.

Disadvantages:
Multi-cylinder Two-stroke engines are not fuel

efficient, so you would get fewer miles per

gallon.
Due to increasing of cylinder the size of the
engine also increases
A multi-cylinder two-stroke engines produce
a lot of pollution.
Difficult to construct ,High cost, proper
maintains, large space occupy due to
more cylinder are used.

Conclusion:
By the studying all data about a multi cylinder two
stroke engine, it give better performance like power ,
losses are negligible & also the high efficiency,
hence

we have to improve the new advance

technologies related to the multi cylinder two stroke

engine.
