Rajasthan has an atypical rhomboid shape and stretches
lengthwise 869 km. from west to east and 826 km. from north to
south. It shares its north-western and western boundary with the
Indo-Pakistan international border that extends about 1,070 km
and touches the major districts Barmer,Bikaner, Ganganagar and
Jaisalmer.

Thar Desert(also known as the "Rajasthan Desert" and "Great
Indian Desert") and shares a border with the Pakistani provinces

ETYMOLOGY

The first mention of the name "Rajasthan" appears in the 1829


publicationAnnals and Antiquities of Rajast'han or the Central and
Western Rajpoot States of India, while the earliest known record of
"Rajputana" as a name for the region is inGeorge Thomas's 1800
memoirMilitary Memories.[7]John Keay, in his bookIndia: A History,
stated that "Rajputana" was coined by the British in 1829, John
Briggs, translatingFerishta's history of early Islamic India, used the
phrase "Rajpoot (Rajput)princes" rather than "Indian princes".[8]
GHOOMAR

The dance is chiefly performed by veiled women who wear flowing


dresses calledghaghara.[1]The dance typically involves performers
pirouetting while moving in and out of a wide circle. The
wordghoomnadescribes the twirling movement of the dancers and
is the basis of the wordghoomar.[

P. cinerariais a small tree, ranging in height from 35m (9.8


16.4ft). Leaves are bipinnate, with seven to fourteen leaflets
on each of one to three pinnae. Branches are thorned along the
internodes. Flowers are small and creamy-yellow, and followed
by seeds in pods. The tree is found in extremely arid conditions,
with rainfall as low as 15cm (5.9in) annually; but is indicative
of the presence of a deep water table. As with some
otherProsopisspp.,P. cinerariahas demonstrated a tolerance
of highly alkaline and saline environments.[6]
BASKETBALL

Basketballis asportthat is played by two teams of five players


on a rectangularcourt. The objective is toshootaballthrough a
hoop 18 inches (46cm) in diameter and mounted at a height of
10 feet (3.048m) tobackboardsat each end of the court. The
game was invented in 1891 byDr. James Naismith, who would be
the first basketball coach of theKansas Jayhawks, one of the
most successful programs in the game's history.
