Smith chart
Example 9.9: On the simplified Smith chart, locate the following normalized
impedances:
a ) z 1 j 0;
b) z 0.5 j 0.5
c) z 0 j 0;
d ) z 0 j1;
e) z 1 j 2;
f ) z
Smith chart
For example, the impedance
z = 0.5 + j 0.5
corresponds to the admittance
1
y 1 j1
0.5 j 0.5
Surprisingly, this calculation can be
done graphically using the Smith
chart!
First, we locate the normalized
impedance on the chart.
Second, we draw a circle (or a
semicircle to generator) centered
at the center of the Smith chart and
passing through the impedance.
Third, we plot a straight line through the center of the Smith chart and through this
impedance. The intersection of the line with the semicircle yields the value for the
admittance.
