Full Time Program - Offers a rigorous
curriculum combining hands son training with
growing systems and technical/business training
with a goal of enabling participants to either join
an existing urban farm or launch their own
venture
Part Time Program - Offers weekend classes in
systems operations, business considerations,
and hands on training
High School Internship - Offers summer
internships to high school students to train on
growing systems
Program Benefits
Upon completion of the program participants will
receive:
Certification of completion and operational
proficiency
Access to the Somerville Farm network of
growers, suppliers, corporate partners,
financial partners, etc.
1 year of access to a raised bed in the
community garden
Key Training Participants
Program is free for all participants (Work to Learn)
Overall characteristics:
Low to middle income
Education level is high school +
Must be 16 or older
Full Time: must be able to participate in the
program 30 hrs/week
Part Time: register and attend initial training on
all systems and register for additional topics as
desired
High School: must commit to a 4 - 6 week
internship (20 hrs/week)
Our Impact
In addition to providing our program participants
with the growing skills to launch their own hyper
local farming initiative, the Somerville farm will
provide:
A space for larger community gatherings for
farmers markets, outdoor performances,
festivals, events, etc.
Access for community members to grow their
own food in our community garden of raised
beds
Hyper local basil for local schools and culinary
institutes
Non-Program Marketing
Community Garden: We offer raised beds to
members of the Somerville community to grow
produce for $40 per year (April - November)
We will spread the word about our community
garden through social media, the garden
website, the city of Somerville website, and a
small flyer campaign at supermarkets, hardware
stores, etc.
Classes: We will offer classes as part of our part
time certification program that will also be open
to members of the public
We will post a class schedule on the garden
website and promote attendance at the classes
via social media and outreach to schools and
