To ease inspection, testing, cleaning and

SITTING OF ACCESS POINTS
At a bend or change of direction
At a junction, unless each run can be cleared from access point
On or near the head of each drain
On long runs not exceeding 6.1 metres
At change of pipe size

Concrete base
Deep manhole should be backfilled with 150mm thickness of concrete
Brickwork
constructed of engineering brickwork or common brickwork, bedded in cement mortar
and should be finished in english bond
Concrete benching
Sloping from the wall to the center of the manhole base, the slope ratio of 1: 6 and
grouted with sulphate resistance cement

Channel
A half round fire glazed channel at the base of manhole.

Step irons
Manhole exceeding 1 metre deep malleable, step irons should be provided.

Cover
Manhole cover are generally made of cast iron
