FEMALE PROTAGONIST

NAME: Not mentioned in film but would be Mary


HEIGHT: 54
AGE:20
GENDER: Female

PHYSICAL APPEARANCE: She has soft reddish-brown hair and brown eyes creating
a soft, innocent look about her character. She is quite petite and short further
portraying her youth (being in her early 20s).

CLOTHING: During the film she just wears plain, simple clothes symbolic of how
plain her life is now without her husband. It also symbolises an emptiness she
holds which needs to be filled shown with the plain colours she wears. This softly
implies what the rest of the plot would be(meeting someone new who fills that).

MAKEUP: She wears simple soft makeup that is hardly noticeable to show how
ordinary of a character she is. The way she is portrayed as an ordinary character
amplifies the sympathy towards her because it just shows these types of
situations, like the loss of a loved one, can happen to anyone and everyone.
CHARACTERS
THE MALE DEUTERAGONIST

NAME: Not mentioned in film but would be Chris


HEIGHT: 55
AGE:20
GENDER: Female but male in the film

PHYSICAL APPEARANCE: She has pitch black hair and dark eyebrows which made
her look dark and mysterious as a man. This made it easy to portray her as a man
because it was easy to draw a beard on. I used her as the male instead of an actual
male because she was more accessible than any male I know.

CLOTHING: She only appears in one scene in which she is playing the dead
husband of Mary (the female protagonist). This meant she was wearing a
suit as she was in her coffin.

MAKEUP: She is wearing a pale foundation to make her appear


dead when she is in the coffin scene. I also painted her beard on
with pitch black acrylic paint and used a very dark eyebrow
powder to make her eyebrows look bushy and as black as her hair
and beard and moustache. This is to make her look as manly as
possible.
MODIFICATIONS

The character of Maryam Qureshi was actually cut out of the


film because I filmed in portrait rather than landscape causing
there to be black strips on either side of the film. Therefore I
had to film the whole film again and as she lied in Ipswich
which is 2 hours away I wasnt able to re-film with her.
Consequently, I gave Eesha Qureshi(my sister) the role of the
young widow(as she was available all the time to film) and her
role as the dead husband was taken out of the film which
wasnt that much of a problem because his role was only in
one scene. Instead I added another character called Isaac
Tompkins who was living at my house at that time so he was
available to film whenever I had needed to. He now plays the
role of the man who tells the widow of the death of her
husband. He only appears in one scene. I have made new
character profiles for both Eesha Qureshi and Isaac Tompkins.

HEIGHT: 55

PHYSICAL APPEARANCE: She has pitch black hair and dark brown eyes. The black of
her hair helps set the mood of the scene because black has connotations of death
and darkness which subtly symbolises the plot. She is quite small emphasising her
youth and making her look more innocent causing the viewer to feel more
sympathetic towards her.

CLOTHING: She only wears 2 outfits during the film opening. One being comfortable
clothes because she is just at home so she would be wearing comfortable clothes
which are joggers and a hoodie. When she goes out she still wears joggers and a
sweater because obviously she had a breakdown after the death of her husband and
had no intention in dressing up nicely.

MAKEUP: She is wearing soft everyday makeup just to show how normal she is
which emphasises sympathy towards her because she is just a normal character
like you and me. She just wears subtle makeup with no harsh colours so that
she looks nice but not too extravagant as a newly widowed woman wouldnt go
out of their way to look amazingly pretty.

HEIGHT: 52
AGE:20 years old roughly
GENDER: Male

PHYSICAL APPEARANCE: He has soft brown hair which is covered by the


hood so it cannot be seen. He has soft brown eyes which isnt obvious in
the film either.

CLOTHING: The only thing you can see him wearing is a high visual jacket.
This makes him look like a policeman as they wear these jackets when it
rains. Its not vital to the film if people realise he is a policeman or not as
this has no importance to the film.

MAKEUP: He isnt wearing makeup as he is a boy so to make it look as


realistic as possible I kept his face natural so as to not make him look like
a doll.
COSTUMES
The actor(Eesha Qureshi) only appears in one
scene which was in the coffin as she is playing
the dead husband. She was wearing a tuxedo
because when people have an open coffin like
she does in the film, they are always dressed
smartly and cleanly so as to avoid upsetting
their family and friends further. I used the tux
because it also represents class and wealth. It
is also stereotypically a mans outfit which helps
to make her look like a man and makes it
believable. I used a black suit instead of say a
blue suit because the black is symbolic of death
and sets the scene of pain and death that the
widow might be experiencing during the film .
It also overshadows a darkness that the widow
will experience in the attempt to move on and
deal with the death of her husband. This is the
only time the husband appears and therefore is
the only outfit worn.
COSTUMES
The actor(Eesha Qureshi) appears again in this scene this
time just playing the stranger who tells the wife(Maryam
Qureshi) of her husbands death. In this scene she is just
wearing a casual top because she doesnt have a certain
attire to wear as this is what people normally wear
everyday. She is just wearing a wrinkled Versace jeans
top in navy. The dark navy also foreshadows a darkness
that is about to become of her speech and the effects of
what she says. She is also wearing glasses because the
same actor is used to play the dead husband so the
glasses add to the difference between her and the
husband so that people dont get confused and think they
are the same character. The trousers arent shown but
she is just wearing black plain jeans. This stranger would
have just come from wherever they were to tell the wife
of her husbands death so she is just wearing casual
everyday clothes just to blend in and seem like a casual
character.
COSTUMES
In this scene the wife (Maryam Qureshi) is just
wearing a jumper and pyjama trousers. This is
because she would have just been at home
relaxing and therefore would most probably be
with no makeup on and wearing pyjamas. The
casualness of her outfit again reinforces the fact
that she is just an ordinary person like you and
me. This again emphasises the sympathy felt
towards her and what happens becauyse she is
just a normal woman and this could happen to
anyone. Her age aswell being young would make
it worse because she is too innocent. Her age is
slightly shown in this with her outfit because she
is wearing quite baby like pyjamas insinuating she
is quite young. This is because women usually
wear silk pyjamas or plain clothing to bed whereas
her trousers have a pattern and bright colours
showing her young age more emphasised.
COSTUMES
In this scene the wife (Maryam Qureshi) is at the
graveyard however it isnt the funeral of her
husband just a visit thats why she is just wearing
plain casual clothes. The clothes are plain to be
symbolic of how she has lost someone and now
everything is plain for her. The colour in her
jumper is soft to insinuate that there is a tiny bit of
hope and imply there is still a tiny bit of colour and
redemption of her life in her life. Her skin is
completely covered so as to not be disrespectful at
a grave and she would have just come from home
to visit her husbands grave so therefore her outfit
is just casual. The fact she is just wearing a big
hoodie and is slightly dressed like a boy might
symbolise how she misses her husband and feels
the need to wear hoodies and dress like him to feel
closer to him.
COSTUMES
In this scene the character is just on a casual walk
and is again just wearing her everyday casual
clothes. She is wearing a navy jumper and black
trousers and white trainers. This is just for the
casual stroll that she is taking. Again the casual
clothes help the viewer to relate to her because it is
clear she is a working class citizen and isnt elite or
very poor and most people watching this would be
working class and would probabl relate to her very
largely. She is wearing dark colours again and is in a
dark environment to reflect her mood and her
feelings because obviously she would feel distraught
and depressed about her husbands passing. People
often reflect themselves through their outfit and it is
clear she is very upset based on all the dark colours
she is constantly wearing.
MODIFICATIONS(COSTUMES)
In the picture to the right the character is wearing grey joggers
and a light grey Hollister hoodie. The casualness of her outfit
reflects her status as working class because she is wearing very
casual, affordable clothes. At home she would be wearing
comfortable clothes which is shown as she looks very relaxed
and like she hasnt made an effort which obviously she hasnt as
she is home alone. The colours grey reflect sadness and despair
because people usually think of grey and think dull and lifeless
which is evidently what her life turns out to be like without her
husband symbolising future events.

In the image to the right the character is wearing the same grey
joggers as the scene in the house. This is what she wears on the
bench showing even when she is outside in public she wears
casual clothes. This emphasises the normalcy of the character
again emphasising the sympathy felt towards her because she is
just an innocent woman trying to get on with her life. The fact
that she makes no effort to dress up and look nice when she
goes out shows she has no one to impress and has maybe lost
all purpose in her life and has given up.
MODIFICATIONS(COSTUMES)

In the picture to the right the character is wearing a


high visual jacket which is typically worn to be seen out
in the dark as the silver strips are reflective and the
neon yellow can be seen in the dark with the littlest of
light shining on it. It also means the person wearing it
can be seen from far away. This is typically so that the
person can be seen by drivers. The brightness of the
neon yellow creates a sense of alert in the viewers eyes
and also warns them of the hectic situation which will
follow suit as the bright colours symbolise alert and
panic. The colours are often linked to panic which subtly
warns the viewer that something bad is going to
happen.
PROPS
The only prop used was in the funeral
scene when the wife (Maryam
Qureshi) places a white rose on her
dead husbands (Eesha Qureshi) body.
The white of the rose symbolises
purity and a start of a new chapter
and the opening of many opportunities
in life. It symbolises the start of
something new which reveals a calm
atmosphere because the white colour
is calming. This makes the funeral not
so sad and focused on the death of the
character but rather the passing on of
the character to a better place and the
start of a new chapter for the wife. It
also suggests she will find some clarity
and peace with her husbands passing.
MODIFICATIONS(PROPS)

The flower wasnt used in the modified film and


instead the only prop used was the ring that the
newly widow threw. It was her wedding ring and she
had felt emotional about losing her husband and so
she threw it across the room. This is the only prop
used in the film.
LOCATIONS
The location of this is a pathway through
the road of Runfold Avenue in Luton. The
path stretches to another road and in the
middle there is a bridge with a river
underneath which if followed leads to a
huge field with lots of greenery and trees.
I chose this location for this scene
because it is very quiet at this time of
night. I chose the time that the sun set
because I thought the sun and all the
colours would set the calm and beautiful
scenery which is always stereotypically
shown in romance films. The trees and all
the nature gives off a very happy and
calm ambiance. It also creates a very
romantic scenery and the calm baby blue
sky shows innocence and purity all of
which are themes often created in
romance films and are recurring
throughout most romance films.
LOCATIONS
This is the Red House in Woodbridge where
all the in house scenes occurred like when
the wife (Maryam Qureshi) was told of her
husbands (Eesha Qureshi) death. This was
also where she crumbled onto the stairs and
cried. I chose this house because of
availability as it is my uncles house and I
was staying there over the holidays when I
filmed these scenes. The house is quite old
and has an ancient look to it which again
creates a romantic ambiance about the
atmosphere. The door is red which
symbolises love and romance. The house is
big and it is clear it is perfect for a family
which is sad because the viewer will realise
from looking in the inside that it is a big
house and seeing the wife find out that her
husband is dead increases the loneliness
that she feels. The viewer realises how big
her house is and how she is all alone there.
This scene is in a woods in
Woodbridge. The woods has a gate
with only 2 gravestones inside of it.
Again I chose this for availability
because it was the closest graveyard
that was accessible whenever I
needed it to be. The fact that it is in
the woods and outside just links to
the ongoing theme of nature in this
film as it seems that nature is her
escape from the world shown where
she is going on a walk with a
beautiful sunset serenading her and
trees either side of her almost like
when people get married and they
have a floral gate around them which
circles them and the reverend. It is
also only 2 graves alone trapped by a
gate further exacerbating the wifes
isolation and loneliness without her
husband.
This is the field in Luton that led off
from Runfold Avenue into
Catsbrook. This was on a field
surrounded by a woods which had a
few benches scattered around. I
chose this place because it was
quite high therefore I could capture
the beauty of the sunset easier
than lower on the ground and I
could focus the camera more on the
sky and the high scenery rather
than what is out in the distance like
the road that it led on to. This was
to reduce anything that would
distract the viewer from the pure
calmness and beauty of just a clear
sky. All of the colours are so calm
and peaceful making the viewer feel
at peace too.
MODIFICATIONS(LOCATION)
The Runfold field locations were all used
during the modified films. The locations
in Woodbridge were not used in the
modified film due to the fact that I
couldnt get there as it was 2 hours
away from where I live which was an
inconvenience to travel to. Therefore
the new location of the house scene
was Brackendale Grove right next to
the Runfold fields in Luton. This was
convenient because it was my house
and was always available and easy to
film in as I live there. It is shown in the
picture on the right that runfold avenue
which the field is on is very close to my
house Brackendale Grove which is very
convenient.
