Introduction of Stella

STELLA is short form for Systems Thinking, Experimental

Learning Laboratory with Animation.
Allows users to run models created as graphical representations
of a system using four fundamental building blocks.
The software produces finite difference equations that describe
the graphical model and allows users to select a numerical
analysis method to apply to the system.
Picture 1

From the graph in picture 1, the

quantities of barn owl is 5 and
quantities of rat is 23 000.
When the rat is more than the barn
owl, the barn owl doest have to
compete each other.
The population of barn owl increase.

Barn owl =
5
Rat = 23
Picture 2

From the graph in picture 2, the

quatities of rat is 13 000 and barn
owl is 12.
The population of barn owl and
rat is balance

Barn owl= 12
Rat = 13 000
Picture 3

From the graph in picture

3, the quantities of rat is 5
000 and barn owl is 20.
The competition of barn
owl is higher. It is because
of the quantities of rat is
small
Therefore the population is
inbalance

Barn owl = 20
Rat = 5 000
Advantages of stella

Provide users with practical feedback

Permit system designer to study a problem at several difference
levels of abstraction
Allow experiment exploration
Effective in teaching concepts to students
Allow student to analyse data and predict future outcome
Disadvantages of stella

Does not have validation

Expensive
Not every teacher is familiar with simulation
Cause student lack in manual science skill process which is also
important in real life.
