Atlantic Forest Biome

Is made up of 15
ecoregions
Main causes of the deforestation

Expansion of agricultural
activities
Infrastructure construction
City growth
Non-sustainable exploitation
of forests

This makes the Atlantic

Forest one of the most
threatened subtropical
forests in the world
Where do we work?

Originally covered 500,000 km
Nowadays, a little less than
35,000 km are conserved; only
7.4% of its original area

SERRA DO MAR

half of its 127,411 km original
area

In Brazil, is vital to achieve 2 important CBD

commitments for 2010: at least 10% of the
ecosystems under PA and stop deforestation.

WWF Brazil works on the creation and

improvement of public and private protected

In Paraguay, is esencial the fulfilment of

the Zero Deforestation Law until 2013.

WWF Paraguay works to strengthen protected

areas by improving its infrastructures and
controls for the implementation of
environmental laws, carrying out prevention
campaigns and promoting the development of
scientific investigations. Also, it helps to create
biodiversity corridors.
